The sophisticated Lake District village of Bowness is nestled on the eastern shores of beautiful Lake Windermere - England's largest lake. Boats peacefully come and go, the mesmerising scenery across the lake changes with the season, and the abundance of lake shore and waterborne activities will keep everybody entertained. Bowness high street is well-served with handy supermarkets, sophisticated boutique shops and a wide range of excellent eateries - all within easy reach of your chosen holiday home. The Royalty cinema plays the latest films on its 3-screens and the Old Laundry Theatre also has plenty of entertainment to offer.

Outdoor lovers will enjoy having easy access to many popular Lake District walking routes. Head up to Gummers How to admire stunning views of Lake Windermere, or take the car ferry across the lake to walk around attractive Hawkshead and explore Beatrix Potter country (the author's home is close to Hawkshead in the village of Near Sawrey). Grizedale Forest is easily accessible via the car ferry, and popular walking destinations including the Langdale Valley, Coniston and Grasmere are only manageable drives away.

July 2013 ..... I couldn't have picked a better location. Been to the Lakes many a time but by far a superior house. Wonderful "little touches"....... many nights spent looking at the views. Perfect family holiday; we will be back.

August 2013 ..... By far the cleanest holiday home we have ever had. We loved it! Perfectly located close to the centre of Bowness and quiet. We really loved our week in the beautiful Lake District. Thank you for all your effort.

The Cumbria/Lake District

The Lake District is a place like no other. No other region in the world is so packed with such varied and stunning scenery in such as small area– and it's all on your doorstep with easy access by car or rail. The choice of outdoor activities is endless with some of the best walks, climbs and bike rides in the world, beautiful lakes for sailing, canoeing, windsurfing or just a cruise one of several ferry services. The National Park itself encompasses soaring mountains, native woodland (you might see a red squirrel!), lush meadows and of course the many famous lakes themselves. Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter, Ruskin and many more have been inspired by the Lake District and made their homes here. The homes are still here and open to visit and they too are surrounded by majestic mountain panoramas. There also some surprises – kids will love attractions such as the giant i-max screen at Rheged Visitor Centre, Go Ape aerial activities in Grizedale Forest and The World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness. And where better to stay than a classic Lakeland Cottage. Lakelovers have over 400 properties in prime locations within the heart of the Lakes and we specialise in hand-picked properties that we know you'll love. Whether you want a grand property for a family gathering or a cosy bolt hole for two we can't wait to show you what we have for you to choose from. We know The Lakes inside out and we are just a click of a mouse or a phone call away.

"Excellent location - very clean property"

Great location, clean property, spacious lounge and dining room, well equipped, great welcome pack with comfy beds. Fabulous AGA. Up a very steep slope to get into (although out 5 year-olds managed fine older members of the party found it hard going). Downsides were water pressure in the showers, noise from the pipes and lack of Wi-Fi.
