The Cumbria/Lake District

The Lake District conjures up images of magnificent mountains and shimmering lakes and that is exactly what visitors find here. In fact the whole county of Cumbria is home to some of Britain's most beautiful scenery. This region has been a favourite all year round holiday destination for years and apart from its natural beauty it's also packed with lots of attractions and activities that cater for every kind of holidaymaker, from family holidays to romantic breaks for couples and from those who are looking for lots of activities and sports to those that prefer more gentle country pursuits. The Lake District National Park lies at the heart of Cumbria and contains well known and much loved holiday destinations such as Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside, Coniston and Grasmere, here there are lots of charming Lakeland villages to discover and visitor attractions for all the family. The northern and western lakes have miles of untouched natural rugged beauty and rural villages as well as being home to the historic northern lakes town of Keswick with its many shops, pubs and restaurants; providing a great holiday base. Other areas to discover include the Eden Valley, Cartmel peninsula, south east Cumbria and the Carlisle and Hadrian's Wall area; all equally beautiful and very handy for day trips into the lakes.

The peaceful village of Troutbeck is situated between the towns of Windermere and Ambleside. It is mainly made up of 17th century home built in traditional Cumbrian slate. The local pub and restaurant are just across the road from Two Views with the nearest shops just one and a half miles away in Windermere. Windermere provides a lovely maze of cobbled walkways through the pedestrianised town, with galleries, gift shops, tea rooms and a great selection of restaurants for eating out. Those looking for a really traditional holiday experience will find a number of good local pubs in which to while away the evenings. The lake itself is nearby and offers a great number of activity opportunities for holiday makers of all interests, ages and abilities. The lake is over 10 miles long and offers some spectacular scenery all year round.
