The Cumbria/Lake District
The Lake District and Cumbria is a fantastic place to visit and is ideally suited for all kinds of holidays - short breaks, a week away or a long holiday. The spectacular mountain and lake views, beautiful scenery, open moors, fells, woodland and rolling hills offer something for everyone. It is an fantastic place to get away from the stress and strains of everyday life, or enjoy outdoor pursuits and thrills.
The Lake District is a magical place during any time of year. In spring there are delicate, wild daffodils, swathes of vibrant bluebells and the accompanying bleats of lambs. Summer brings long, warm days and the dapple of sunlight through trees. Autumn is a popular time to enjoy the colours of the leaves and still days on the mountains and lakes. In winter the mountain tops always have a dusting of snow and the crisp frosty weather makes for lovely walking.
Whatever the time of year, the Lake District can always provide a welcoming place to eat and drink. This could be a thirst quenching pint in a local pub, a superb meal in a high quality restaurant, or even just fish and chips by a lake.
There are lots of place to visit and enjoy that are close to Riverside Lodge. Stepping out of the door will take you directly onto the Lake District mountains. There is a National Trust property within walking distance as well as 3 pubs, all serving excellent ales and food.
Windermere lake is a 5 minute drive away and there a hundred things to do on and around the Lake. Victorian steamers sail the length of the lake all year round and small motor boats, rowing boats and canoes can be hired at several places. Mountain bikes are also very popular and are available in many places. Several forests maintain off-road cycle routes which are safe for smaller children and exhilerating for the more adventurous.
Over 5 million visitors enjoy the Lake District each year and there are numerous places to visit. The Aquarium of the Lakes is nearby, as is the Beatrix Potter experience for younger children. There are steam railways, slate mines, rock climbing centres, stately homes, museums and many, many more places. The lodge contains a folder full of local information about these and other attractions.

"Cosy little cottage on the banks of a beautiful stream"
Charming and romantic accommodation, very comfortable for two people and a baby, though a bit too small for us as our parents were staying with us as well. Beautiful views from the lounge room overloo… More
We're glad you had a lovely stay at the Lodge and you all enjoyed the views and the river. It is a great location in a beautiful area. You booked for a party of 4 and had we known you were a party of 5 we would have advised you that the Lodge bedrooms would feel a bit small. We have another Lodge (Puddleduck Lodge) that would have been more suitable. All the mattresses at both Lodges are new and we find that guests generally prefer firmer ones.

Enjoyed a 3 night stay with my husband to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. Could not have asked for a better place, the lodge is cosy, warm and has all the facilities you need to provide a comfortable stay. The location is so peaceful and beautiful on the river we only wished the weather could have been better to enjoy the balcony more although we did have a BBQ! Perfect only wished we could have stayed longer - we will be back!
You just can't beat a riverside barbecue on the balcony, whatever the weather! We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and you found the Lodge cosy and comfortable.

"PERFECT PLACE FOR PEACE, RELAXATION ,LOCATION & COMFORT"
I found the cabin perfect for my family and two Dalmations, it had everything we needed to hand, felt very comfortable and also on a very cold snowy weekend we could make it very warm and cosy. It was very central for getting out and about in the Lakes, absolutely perfect.
We will be revisiting shortly and hopefully taking more people with us in another cabin and wouldn't hesitate in recommending to anyone else.
Thank you for a lovley review, we're really glad you enjoyed your stay in the snow. We'll look forward to welcoming you back to Riverside Lodge when it's a bit warmer! If you come with friends next time our other Lodge is only a few meters away. It's called Puddleduck Lodge, it's also right on the river, and both Lodges can be rented together.

"Amazing - can[--]t wait to go back"
When we first arrived you could just tell it was quality. The place was amazing. Plenty of room and every detail thought about. It was a lot more spacious than I thought it would be. Bathroom is very large for a log cabin. The couch and chairs were very comfy and telly a good size for a relaxing night in. The bedding was really nice, good quality and looked brand new. Very cosy, in fact a bit too warm - which for a log cabin was strange. I had packed for winter but needed some shorts and t shirts. The kitchen is equip with everything you would need. I cooked one night and it was easy to work in. The other night we went for the best roast beef dinner I have ever had in The Queens Head a few mins drive away. Fantastic. I can't praise it enough. I knew I had chosen well from the correspondence back and forth from the owners, they seem like really nice, honest and trusting people. I am a fussy guest and am usually let down by something because my expectations are very high, but I cannot find fault.
We're so pleased you had such a great time at the Lodge. It really is a cosy place, probably because it's all made from wood! Next time you come you could try the other pub in the village which is also excellent.
