The Cumbria/Lake District
The Lake District and Cumbria is a fantastic place to visit and is ideally suited for all kinds of holidays - short breaks, a week away or a long holiday. The spectacular mountain and lake views, beautiful scenery, open moors, fells, woodland and rolling hills offer something for everyone. It is an fantastic place to get away from the stress and strains of everyday life, or enjoy outdoor pursuits and thrills.
The Lake District is a magical place during any time of year. In spring there are delicate, wild daffodils, swathes of vibrant bluebells and the accompanying bleats of lambs. Summer brings long, warm days and the dapple of sunlight through trees. Autumn is a popular time to enjoy the colours of the leaves and still days on the mountains and lakes. In winter the mountain tops always have a dusting of snow and the crisp frosty weather makes for lovely walking.
Whatever the time of year, the Lake District can always provide a welcoming place to eat and drink. This could be a thirst quenching pint in a local pub, a superb meal in a high quality restaurant, or even just fish and chips by a lake.
There are lots of place to visit and enjoy that are close to Puddleduck Lodge. Stepping out of the door can take you directly onto the Lake District mountains. There is a National Trust property within walking distance as well as 3 pubs, all serving excellent ales and food.
Windermere lake is a 5 minute drive away and there a hundred things to do on and around the Lake. Victorian steamers sail the length of the lake all year round and small motor boats, rowing boats and canoes can be hired at several places. Mountain bikes are also very popular and are available in many places. Several forests maintain off-road cycle routes which are safe for smaller children and exhilerating for the more adventurous.
Over 5 million visitors enjoy the Lake District each year and there are numerous places to visit. The Aquarium of the Lakes is nearby, as is the Beatrix Potter experience for younger children. There are steam railways, slate mines, rock climbing centres, stately homes, museums and many, many more places. The lodge contains a folder full of local information about these and other attractions.

We're really pleased you had such a great stay and enjoyed being in a Lodge by the river. And thanks for giving us 5 stars out of 5!!
The lodge does have a cosy interior and hopefully the electric heaters and plug-in radiator kept you warm without the fire, which works fine but can be tricky to light.
Only the vodafone network covers the Troutbeck valley but we can always be contacted via reception who have all our contact numbers (and a telephone landline!) Or you can send us an email via the free Wifi.

Myself, my partner and my dog all enjoyed a short weekend at Puddle Duck Lodge, the only complaint is that we couldnt get longer off work to enjoy more time there! We will be coming again next year without a doubt!
There is enough room for multiple guests if needed, but we mostly pulled out the sofa bed and relaxed listening to the River, its surprising how quick time flies when your relaxing and unwinding!
There is loads to do in the area if you have time, we went on many walks as there is lot to see. We didnt use any site facilities so cannot comment but overall it was clean and welcoming.
When we were packing up the car to leave Jet (the dog) sulked and tried to hide he wanted to stay that badly!
We would recommend this lodge to anybody.
Georgia, Guy and Jet x
Thanks for a lovely review. We know just how Jet felt when he had to go home. A lot of people feel the same way!
We'll look forward to welcoming you back to Puddleduck Lodge next year when you can all try a few more walks. Hopefully there will be enough time to discover a bit more of the Lake District and some of the local facilities too.
