The Lake District

Cumbria, at the very north of England, is amongst its most beautiful regions. The Lake District National Park has long been celebrated for its mirror lakes and craggy peaks.

There are also an abundance of pretty villages and towns. The Lake District is heaven for those who love the outdoors, with sailing, rock climbing and hiking and much more on offer. Cumbria has sandy coastlines and interesting towns to visit, including old-fashioned Windermere and Keswick.

Windermere

The location of the cottage is in the centre of Windermere Village, an area that many see as the centre of the Lake District National Park, the cottage is conveniently located for restaurants and shops only a few metres away, Windermere Railway station is approximately 5 minutes away on foot.

Lake Windermere is less than a mile away where you can enjoy a ferry ride or take one of the small pleasure crafts that can be hired locally or just take in the amazing sites the Lakes has to offer.

Old Codgers cottage is situated in the centre of Windermere and is ideal for those without transport as it is close to the railway station, local bus routes and all the amenities of Windermere and the Lake District.

Situated in a cul-de-sac, our holiday Cottage is ideally placed for easy access to the centre of Windermere and only a short walk from the railway station. It is situated in a pleasant residential area of Windermere, close to various public houses selling traditional ales which are popular with locals and holidaymakers alike. It is also situated conveniently for all the attractions of a Holiday in the Lake District National Park.

"cosy cottage"

We had a lovely, relaxing midweek break at this lovely cosy, clean, well equipped and warm cottage with our irish wolfhound.
The cottage is central to the shops, take outs and pubs but is so quiet you would not know it was so close until you step out of the front door.
The walks for our dog were excellent and the views amazing.
We found parking so easy just outside the front door .
Clive the owner was very helpful and the booking was easy to make.
Highly recommended.

"Lovely cottage in an outstanding central location"

My wife and I, with our 2 terriers, have just returned from a short mid-week break which - despite some of the weather - we thoroughly enjoyed. The cottage is just a few yards from the shops, tearooms', take-aways and pubs of Windermere village but in a quiet side street with residents only parking outside. A 20 minute walk downhill (bit longer coming back!) sees you at the lakeside at Bowness which is another pleasant, if touristy, village with regular boat access to other parts of the Lake. The cottage is also very central for touring the Lakes by car, eg in 3 afternoons we visited Kendal, Ambleside, Keswick and Grassmere, despite it being dark by 4pm.
The cottage itself is very clean, comfortably furnished and equipped with everything you need to self cater. The owners obviously care for the property and provide plenty of info about the area and plenty of things to do in the house by way of games, DVDs etc. though the TV has very limited channels.
Very few downsides to the property though I think 4 adults might find the lounge "cosy" if they wanted to spend evenings in together and the outside space is quite small.
Although much of the cottage is excellent I think a "very good" rating is fair overall and for us it was certainly good value for money.

"A superb accommodation in an equally superb location"

We can sum up our impression of this property by the title alone. However, it's fair to say that Clive went to the next step to make this a memorable stay. A welcome bottle of wine was there on our arrival and the cottage was immaculately presented. I haven't stayed in a cleaner, or more comfortable place anywhere in the world.
The location in central Windermere is perfect, and a minutes walk to the local chippie and town centre. Parking the car was easy and a space was always available outside the cottage front door. I won't presume to tell you more about Windemere and this property. You'll just have to go and appreciate it for yourselves. You won't be disappointed I'm certain.
