My wife and I, with our 2 terriers, have just returned from a short mid-week break which - despite some of the weather - we thoroughly enjoyed. The cottage is just a few yards from the shops, tearooms', take-aways and pubs of Windermere village but in a quiet side street with residents only parking outside. A 20 minute walk downhill (bit longer coming back!) sees you at the lakeside at Bowness which is another pleasant, if touristy, village with regular boat access to other parts of the Lake. The cottage is also very central for touring the Lakes by car, eg in 3 afternoons we visited Kendal, Ambleside, Keswick and Grassmere, despite it being dark by 4pm. The cottage itself is very clean, comfortably furnished and equipped with everything you need to self cater. The owners obviously care for the property and provide plenty of info about the area and plenty of things to do in the house by way of games, DVDs etc. though the TV has very limited channels. Very few downsides to the property though I think 4 adults might find the lounge "cosy" if they wanted to spend evenings in together and the outside space is quite small. Although much of the cottage is excellent I think a "very good" rating is fair overall and for us it was certainly good value for money. |
