"Cosy house in the countryside"

Well equiped house with garden located in a village not far to train station to move around South England. Easy access to Winchester and pathways of South Downs NP.

"A cozy cottage with a lot of soul, recommended for sure!"

It's a nice cottage, with all what you need right at hand.

It is in a small village Shawford, and if you didn't go by car, it's close to the nearest railway station...

We can recommend it to others, also if you are a family bigger than my wife and me....

""England" you remember it"

A delightful cottage in the equally delightful village of Twyford, very near Winchester, but also within comfortable range for day (or even half-day) trips to Portsmouth, Witterings beach, London and above all the New Forest and the ancient chalk of the South Downs. Plenty of good walks to be had through the Itchen watermeadows starting at the front door, too.

The world famous (in our far flung family, at least) Twyford Post Office and Stores can provide most of the necessities of life (as well as anything from a haircut to a poached egg...), and there are two pubs within easy rolling home distance.

Embessy itself is homely and welcoming; it's not palatial (it is a cottage, after all), but our family of five (children of 8, 6 and 3) fit quite comfortably into the two bedrooms (big double bed with an extra trestle upstairs, bunk beds downstairs next to the garden). The original part of the building dates from the 15th century (so you will want to mind your head in some places if you are over 6 ft), but the cottage has been thoughtfully and thoroughly renovated and extended, leaving the feel and atmosphere of a place with a fair bit of history, while also providing every comfort. The kitchen is very well equipped, the bathroom spic and span, and everything works; Hampshire was pretty cold and wet during our stay over Christmas and the new year - but we weren't.

"Not suitable for anyone over 160cm tall (5ft 2in)"

Very low beams are quaint, but it is impossible for taller people to stand up straight under them. People were a good deal shorter in the 15th Century! The bathroom is a real problem. There is no separ… More

In over ten years of letting this cottage this is the first comment about the height of the beams. In point of fact the lowest point of the sitting room is 5feet7inches (170cm) and this is above a coffee table and does not affect a standing area. The only other low point is 6 feet (184 cm) - which is where this guest is photographed. Otherwise ceiling heights conform with modern standards.

Due to the nature of the construction of the cottage we were only able to put in a bath, and while there is a shower mixer, it is not possible to stand in the bath to shower.

At the end of stay, cleaning may be undertaken by guests, or if they wish a cleaner may be arranged at a cost of £25.

Our area has just switched over to digital television and we had just replaced the free view set-top box but this has proved inadequate and so a new larger antenna has now been fitted and reception is now satisfactory.
