Stable Cottage
About the home
Retreat from the constant rush of everyday life in this stunning area of hidden countryside, right in the heart of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Forming part of a Victorian villa, the cottage offers light and comfortable living and is ideal for a coveted family escape.
A small distance from the cottage is the historic yet busy Westfield, still boasting a village shop, local butcher and even a hairdressers, great for a smarten up after a day out before sampling the delights of the village pub. For something a little special The Wild Mushroom restaurant offers a secluded and intimate gourmet dining experience. (Reservations advised). A prominent sight as you enter the village from the south is St. John the Baptist church which has served the parishioners for over 800 years.
There is so much to explore inland too! French Champagne producers are looking over their shoulders at rapidly improving English sparkling wine, and Carr Taylor vineyards, set on the edge of the village, provides a perfect example. Visitors can enjoy tours and tastings of Gold medal winning wines. The fairytale medieval castle at Bodiam and of course the nearby famous battle site that heralded the beginning of the Norman Conquest at the atmospheric Battle Abbey, are equally well worth a visit.
Then head down to the Sussex coastline for breathtaking views and golden sandy beaches. Try Camber Sands, a beach worthy of a song by 'Fatboy Slim' titled the same name. Popular with families, the sand dunes will also fascinate nature and wildlife enthusiasts, being designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Visit Hastings for a typical seaside town with a difference. Namely - Britain's steepest funicular Victorian Railway, authentic Smugglers Caves, one of the last great Victorian seaside piers and the remains of William the Conqueror's first English Castle. Also home to Europe's largest beach fishing fleet so why not take home a dressed crab to enjoy with a glass of local bubbly.
A palette of whites and creams prevails throughout the cottage creating a light and elegant feel. Painted floorboards, sisal flooring and off-white walls combined with ornate, antique metal and brass beds to generate a chic charm of yesteryear. An open-plan lounge and kitchen/ dining area with a verdant outlook over the cottage's garden is an ideal family room. Budding chefs will enjoy the functional and well-equipped kitchen. The bedrooms have a fresh, clean décor with windows dressed with handmade blinds. The cottage has sole use of a lawned garden with a gravelled patio area and attractive courtyard area with stylish garden furniture, perfect for a morning cup of coffee or a relaxing evening drink.
