An ideal centre for touring and walking with The Cotswold Way traversing the farm.

Our Gloucestershire farm house bed and breakfast is 3 miles east of Winchcombe at Farmcote..

The house was built around 1840 as a dower house for Lord Sudley's mother. It has a flagstoned hall entrance leading to comfortable, spacious accommodation upstairs.

The house is surrounded by a large garden where guests can have afternoon tea on the terrace in the summer and enjoy the view.

In the winter tea is served in front of a log burning stove.

Pets welcome by arrangement at £5/night.

Winchcombe, 3 1/2 miles away was the capital of Mercia approximately 7-800 AD, a kingdom extending to Northern England.

Beckbury Camp, an Iron Age hill fort ½ a mile along the escarpment, dates long before Doomsday having being occupied 1-2000 BC. Situated on a great vantage point, the inhabitants had a 270 degree view over the Vale to the Welsh Mountains 70 miles away. Today the ‘Strip Lynches’ or terraces , created by hundreds of years ploughing with oxen, can easily be identified.

Hailes Abbey, ½ mile distant, now a ruin, was build aprox 1220 AD by a contemporary of King John’s as a ‘thank you’ for surviving a ship wreck!

Sudley Castle near Winchcombe, burial place of Catherine Parr, Henry VIII’s last surviving wife, Castle badly damaged in the Civil War but later restored in nineteenth century by wealthy Dent family of glove making fame.

Great Farmcote our neighbour; Owned by the Stratford family 1350 to 1750 whose estates covered 128sq miles at their height! In the Civil War they raised their own army of 1000 men and then afterwards grew tobacco in the Cotswolds
