Turtle View
About the home
This villa is for those who enjoy peace and tranquillity. The stunning waterfront location at the Peninsula along with the contemporary style is what sets this holiday home apart from others. The villa looks out from the Peninsula, towards Pelican Island and the reef beyond. A large infinity pool enables you to swim whilst enjoying the views in the distance. There are large areas of deck on either side of the villa, with ample room for sun-bathing. Cooling tropical breezes enable you to enjoy the tropical sunshine in comfort, even on the hottest days.
Furniture throughout is contemporary plantation style with plenty of seating/recliners to suit everyone. Inside are two bedrooms, located on different floors, each with en-suite facilities; bedroom 1 has a king sized four poster and bedroom 2 has two double beds. There is a spacious lounge with breath-taking, 180 degree waterfront views. The open plan kitchen, living room opens up to the views and poolside allowing for the ever present easterly trade winds to cool the property. The fully equipped kitchen is modern with high end stainless steel appliances and a centre island. It has a large American style freezer, separate drinks cooler, oven, hob, microwave and dishwasher. All cooking and dining utensils are provided. Bedrooms and living areas have ceiling fans, (believe us you do not need air conditioning when you have tropical breezes). There is a downstairs, fully equipped laundry and store room.
There are inside and outside dining areas, designed to accommodate eight people. A sun deck with four loungers, overlooking crystal clear water and plenty of comfortable arm chairs to enjoy the shade.
Turtle View is a luxury villa located in the exclusive Peninsula Development and was designed by Andrew Goodenough, one of Antigua's premier architects. It is positioned on 0.55 acres of waterfront land, near to the village of Wilikies. The villa is perfectly located for exploring the tropical breeding grounds and visiting the many deserted beaches. This holiday home is for the discerning, who will appreciate peace, tranquility and privacy in a secure un-spoilt environment. A rental car is recommended.
There are some full time residents who live at the Peninsula, who have moved out to Antigua to live the Caribbean dream. Claire is one of these and is our house manager. She will greet you and is happy to advise you on places to go on the island. We can arrange for the property to be provisioned prior to your arrival and cleaning is arranged on a weekly basis. If you require a maid-service, this too can be arranged. Claire's husband Mark can also arrange for boat trips/fishing around the reef and island.
Feedback from guests who visited in Feb 2013
Dear Jane,
Feedback as requested.
Having used Holiday Letting's site for some considerable time now it is
always with an element of trepidation that you travel to a holiday home
advertised on the site wondering if it will meet your expectations.
Well on this occasion our expectations were surpassed on arrival at the
stunning Turtle View villa in Antigua.
Things had started well some 8 months prior to departure, e-mails with
helpful tips, advice about car hire and a brilliant package prior to
departure all suggesting this was to be a good trip.
However, on arrival at the villa we were truly amazed, the location is
breathtakingly beautiful, tranquil and without doubt one of the most
idyllic holiday destinations you could encounter.
The villa is not only set in a stunning location it is beautifully and
tastefully decorated and equipped to an extremely high standard.
We used Vernon's car hire, they collected us at the airport, took us to
Turtle View where our car was waiting for us. The drop off on return to
St Johns Airport was managed well and I would have no hesitation in
recommending them.
Claire is a delight to deal with, if you need her she's there, if not
then she does not bother you.
We were given a local mobile phone to book restaurants and you must go
to Cecilia's in Dutchman's Bay,stunning location with brilliant food.
Half Moon Bay is a must go to beach,we loved Harry's Bar.
We travelled to the West coast of the island and found purpose built complexes
with manned gates and barriers giving way to multi occupancy
accommodation, if you want that then Turtle View may not be your thing.
However, if you want a stunning villa set in a breathtaking location
then look no further you have found a small piece of paradise. I can
pay Turtle View no greater compliment other than to say I have booked
again to go in 2014.
Many thanks Jane,
feedback from our first guest
"We would just like to say that from beginning to end our experience in
dealing with you about your beautiful villa Turtle View in Antigua has
been exceptional and certainly made it the best holiday, not only
because of the attention to detail in your organisation of booking/villa
details/instructions/information etc. but of course the villa is
absolutely beautiful and very very comfortable, and homely. The views
from the villa are outstanding watching the turtles fleetingly come to
the surface, pop their heads out, and dive back down again and waking to
the sound of the Pelicans fishing in the water outside the house. We
will certainly be booking another holiday at your villa and have already
passed details on to friends.
Thanks again for all your help and we hope that you have a very
successful year with the villa - I would imagine that anyone who stays
at your villa will most certainly go back again and would not even
consider looking anywhere else."

"By far best the best accommodations my wife and I have had on a Caribbean Island (this is our 5th island). The house is amazing. The views, the porch, pool, kitchen, etc. Watching the pelicans was so much fun and hearing them plop into the water was a great way to wake up. " 18th to 25th Jan 2011
Seeing the humming birds and other tiny birds, catching sight of a frigate bird, being cool at all times of day or night. main thing for me was the sense of light in all rooms, which just hits you when you walk in.
I could happily have spent all day here instead of going out anywhere, the biggest problem being where to choose to sit with my G & T!
Just writing to say how much we enjoyed our short break at your villa - if only we could have stayed longer! It was absolutely perfect in every way and just so relaxing. We saw a humming bird most days and other very tiny little birds that were fascinating. The photographs really do not give you the sense of space, light and airiness that you get the moment you walk in. I hope Claire found everything was in order after we left.
Best wishes, and thanks again for the opportunity to share your lovely home

1 Please tell us what the highlights of your stay with us were.
The location is to die for, absolutely fabulous place to stay and get away from it all – could not have been better
2 Did your stay with us, meet your expectations? If not how can we improve? No it did not meet our expectation it exceeded them by a long way. All I would say is have the swimming pool pump serviced to make it quieter! (it can be a lot quieter I know I work in the pump industry) But other than that it was far better than advertised and we loved it.
Hi Jane,
Yes! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Antigua! It is such a beautiful island and the people are so friendly with plenty to do there. The villa was amazing, much more than we expected. The pictures/descriptions do not do it justice.
I have filled in the attached form as requested.
Thank you for everything, and give our thanks to Claire also; she was very accommodating and helpful.
My partner and I are already looking into the possibilities of moving out there someday, so it has certainly made a lasting and memorable impression on us both.
Kind regards,
Tom. NOV 2011

1. Please tell us what the highlights of your stay with us were.
We enjoyed the house – beautiful views and nicely isolated which is great for privacy. The house has very friendly and helpful neighbours.
2. Did your stay with us, meet your expectations? If not how can we improve?
Yes – Claire was helpful. Vernon (car rental service) people were great. The house is beautiful and location is amazing. I will not hesitate to book again and will definitely recommend to others who may go to Antigua.

1. Please tell us what the highlights of your stay with us were.
The location is better than expected, despite the website already portraying a fantastic location. The directions and information provided in advance were the best I have ever seen, and having the basic provisions there on arrival was fantastic.
Villa is very well kept, modern, relatively minimalist, but with the lived in feeling, very much not having the cold/lifeless feeling that rented Villas can sometimes invoke.
The Wireless internet is very much appreciated.
2. Did your stay with us, meet your expectations? If not how can we improve?
After talking to Claire's Dad re the pool pump, he changed the timer so that it came on for the 7 hours needed during the night, leaving the day peaceful. With this, it was wonderfully peaceful, allowing full enjoyment of the great views.
A previous review comment referred to a path down to the water. Whilst this would have been nice, I can appreciate that this would I am sure be a costly addition, but I suppose would make the Villa even better. However, I would have no hesitation booking the Villa again, with or without the path.
Some pre-prepared information about the best beaches, restaurants, supermarkets etc might be helpful. When we caught up with Claire (as we arrived late) she was very helpful.
3. Any other comments and suggestions
Lastly, if you are concerned about Aircon, don't be, when we were there in January, there were constant breezes and it was very pleasant sleeping with just the sounds of nature and natural air.
Amanda and Dave and family April 2012
Hi Jane,
Got back this morning, and we had a wonderful time. The children so enjoyed it that every day they said could we stay at home to play in the pool! We did get out and about a bit and really enjoyed the island, which is so much less developed than Barbados!
We managed to adopt a donkey and Clare and Mark took us out to Bird Island which was amazing. The children also joined in with the kite festival at Devils Bridge and i think we are well known to all the stall holders at long bay!
Thanks so much
Amanda Dave, Esme and Jamie.
Please tell us what the highlights of your stay with us were.
Being able to swim every day in the lovely pool and look at the view. Seeing the pelicans flying over and humming birds at the flowers. Being taken to Bird Island. Visiting the kite festival. Adopting a donkey – the children loved the opportunity to stroke the donkeys!
2 Did your stay with us, meet your expectations? If not how can we improve?
The villa exceeded our expectations – the photos did not do it justice. The location was great being so close to Long Bay which was the children's favorite beach due to the coconut seller, clear water which is not too deep, reef, availability of drinks and small shops! We found everything we needed in the house. Although we have never take portable DVD players before they worked very well – and the children could watch their favorite films when the sun got really hot. We also took a lap top with a larger screen and borrowed your speaker which was fantastic – so fantastic we need to get one then we can just use the laptop! We were not sure if the fans were going to be enough to cool us but they were and the local breeze was fantastic (much cooler than Barbados
3 Any other comments and suggestions
The directions were spot on. We did have photo directions from one villa we rented in Dubai and they made following the directions even simpler!
July 2012
Dear Jane,
I was planning to e-mail you today. Just wanted to say that we had a fantastic time in Antigua. Your house is really beautiful and it was such a joy to wake up to the sun and to sit out on the deck watching the pelicans.I am already having withdrawal symptoms!
We found empty beaches - we even managed to get a police escort to Rendezvous Bay (we couldn't find it and so stopped at a small police station to ask for directions. They obviously didn't have much crime to fight and said that they would show us - amazing!). When we got there, we had the beach to ourselves.
We loved it at Mama Pasta. My daughter, Sophie, tried the curry goat, which she thoroughly enjoyed. I think Cecil topped my dauhters' list of favourite Antiguans (along with the crew of the Wadadli Cats, which included Barry the rastafarian!).
Claire (and Mark) was really helpful and gave us lots of tips about where to go/eating out, etc. She did a fantastic job.
I will gladly complete the feedback form - will let you have it later today.
Best regards,
Sarah

BookThe Antigua region
Antigua is located in the middle of the Leeward Islands in the Eastern Caribbean, roughly 17 degrees north of the equator. To the south are the islands of Montserrat and Guadaloupe, and to the north and west are Nevis, St. Kitts, St. Barts, and St. Martin. The island is about 14 miles long and 11 miles wide. It has a wonderful climate with sun shining all year round with typical winter sun in 30 degrees C, tropical breezes to cool you down and low humidity. The rainy season is between May and October but even then the showers are heavy and short and the sky soon clears to reveal another beautiful day. Because the island gets rain it is lush and tropical in many areas, particularly in the south of the island. The island is English speaking. You will find the locals are very friendly but are not effusive; if you smile then they will too. Wilikies the local village is safe, as is English Harbour and Jolly Harbour. We have always felt very safe but employ common sense when it comes to visiting the capital St Johns at night. If you like the wild outdoors there are a wide range of excursions on the island. Claire and Mark can take you on a boat trip directly from the Peninsula. For sailing give Captain Nash a call, this is a true sailing cruise where you get to be the crew for a day of sail only cruising to some beautiful spots. Learn about trimming the main and tightening up the jib sheet on your way to a beautiful lunch. Closer to home - The Eco Kayak adventure through the mangroves around the Peninsula. Or if you are true adventurer go zip wiring on the Rainforest Canopy Tour. People tend to eat out early, go to bed early and rise very early. The mornings are stunning, you may wake to the sound of the Pelicans fishing in the water outside the house, they make a huge plop as they dive. Watch out for turtles, you will see them fleetingly come to the surface, pop their heads out, and dive back down again. There is set of field glasses for you to use.
The Willikies / The Peninsula area
The Peninsula Antigua, is twenty minutes drive from the new international airport. It is located in North Sound on the Atlantic (East) coast of the Island and is protected by a chain of small uninhabited islands with white sandy beaches and coral reefs that are easily accessible by boat. It is fair to say that it is one of the most tranquil and unspoilt locations in the Caribbean. The three headlands that make up the Peninsula are surrounded by the shallow navigable waters of Belfast Bay, a stunning harbor that forms part of an archipelago that provides an excellent breeding ground for tropical fish and turtles. Dolphins and migrating whales can occasionally be seen from the bay. This area, which until recently could not be reached by road, is being developed sympathetically by long-time residents of Antigua in a style that reflects traditional West Indian architecture. There are a small number of quality homes on the waterfront that take advantage of the cooling breezes and breathtaking views. The residents of the Peninsula appreciate peace and tranquility and the use of jet skis and high speed power boats are not permitted. We have also agreed to refrain from playing loud music. Wilikies, the local village is rustic and there are several small but basic local stores where you can buy bread, milk and basic provisions. Staying at the Peninsula enables you to taste the night life but retreat to peace and tranquility when you desire.

"On arrival we were delighted with the tranquility of the area. The building was clean & welcoming. The house was spacious and comfortable and provided us with everything we needed during our 2 week stay. The pool was probably the cleanest pool we have ever experienced as it was pumping & filtering continuously. The view from the terrace was heaven! Blue skies, Pelicans dive-bombing for fish into the glass-like calm waters, humming birds raiding the flowers & small but brightly coloured lizards going about their business. We were also well situated for "Stingray City" where we had the most wonderful day swimming with gentle Stingrays. A day we will never forget! We would recommend this house and will most definitely consider returning ourselves in the future. A truly wonderful Getaway". Response: We are so glad you enjoyed the peace of the Peninsula. We know its so hard to convey it to our guests but once they arrive they see just how beautiful it is. Peace is difficult to describe. Thank you so much for your review. |

GREATER FLEXIBILITY
As Turtle view is new we have decided to offer greater flexibility. We have found that some clients prefer to fly mid week to make savings. Also as Antigua is an 8hr flight and it can make a really special break to go away for ten days. That way you get two weekends without having to take too much leave and you really feel like you have unwound. So extra nights over 1 week are possible at the owners discretion.
If we have a vacancy in our calendar and it is less than a week please call us for a quote.
We can now take payment through Paypal and credit cards, there is a 1.4% transaction fee for UK payments and 3.95% fee for overseas transactions. We also accept cheque or bank transfer full details available via email.
