The Cumbria/Lake District

Nestling on the shores of the Solway Firth, facing the hills of Southern Galloway and backed by the Lake District Fells. Silloth, the popular seaside resort in Cumbria's Western Lakes and Coast, is noted for its invigorating but mild climate; its leisurely peaceful atmosphere and perhaps, most of all, its glorious sea views and sunsets, fine enough to be recorded for posterity by Turner, the famous landscape artist.

Useful links: (local paper to keep up to date with events on in Silloth & surrounding areas)

Attractions are:

Silloth is noted for its excellent 18 hole natural links Golf Course, one of the most attractive and testing in the North which has hosted two ladies open championships.

The level countryside of the Solway Plain provides a variety of interesting walks and easy cycling all round. Silloth is located on both the Cumbria Coastal Way and Cumbria Cycle Way.

Grune Point is a fascinating peninsula projecting a mile into Moricambe Bay and the Solway Estuary. Like the rest of the Solway Coast it is a haven for many seabirds and small migratory birds of interest to the keen birdwatcher.

For those seeking the ultimate in solitude and relaxation the wildlife of the Solway Marshes is only minutes away. The area around Silloth includes inter-tidal saltmarshes and sand-dunes which are designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest because of the richness in rare plants, birds and other animals. The Solway Coast around Silloth has been identified as an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' because of its unique coastal landscapes and habitats. The Solway Coast Discovery Centre, based in the town, is the gateway to the Solway Coast AONB and is well worth a visit.

Sea fishing is a popular pastime and north west of England competitions are held here.

Historically the area is very important and has been designated a World Heritage Site because of it's Roman military remains which formed part of the Hadrian's Wall defence network.

In the town itself there are the usual local stores (inlcuding a coop & a spar), souvenir shops, amusements, plenty of places to eat & drink, even an ice cream parlour, tennis courts, bowling, and other amenities on the Green including a new water park and a new woodland adventure trail or the major holiday parks, including swimming pools.

"Lovely house, shame about the building work"

The house was lovely and in a great location for the beach. It's not actually in Silloth, but on the road out. This twinned with a lack of mobile phone/GPS signal made it quite difficult to find … More

We are sorry you had trouble finding the property. Satnavs should take you right to the door. Phone signal is dependant on the network and 3g isn't available in our area yet, hence the reason we have wifi in the house.
The building work was essential but we kept getting let down by builders and the weather - these things happen, I think at the time i was waiting to be told when this was going to happen (to warn any guests staying) this didn't happen.

We are pleased you still managed to enjoy your stay and found the house adequate for the number of guests

Kind Regards Shaun, Nic & Family

"One word excellent!"

We happened on this place by chance, as we wanted to be in Maryport but could not find the right accommodation at the right price. We emailed one in Allonby but the price on the website was a lot different than the price that the owner wanted. First off some owners can be rather off putting, that definitely was not the case with Shaun, he and his wife were there to meet us on arrival and made us feel welcomed from the offset. In our party there were six adults and two babies and as I like my own space sometimes, I was hoping that we all would not be cramped together, as we walked through the front door all my fears were allayed, the size of the house affords the opportunity to find your own space or come together in the more than adequate living room or dining room. The furnishings and décor are of a higher standard than the normal “holiday Let” not to mention the beds and bedding which were excellent. You can tell that a lot of thought has gone into this accommodation whilst preparing it for holidays and it is a real credit to the owners. Silloth is well worth visiting and the drive to Maryport is via a pleasant coastal road. I will definitely be going back to Prospect House but I have a feeling that I will have to book early as I know this property will become increasingly more popular as the word gets out.

Hi Mark,

Myself and Nicola would like to thank you for your kind words, we are very pleased you found the location suitable for your needs and the property to your liking. We do try to keep the highest standards possible.

Looking forward to your next visit

Shaun and Nic
