Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to the tidal salt marshes, The Grey House faces the sweeping scenery of the Scottish coast and is cradled in the breath-taking charm of Silloth Bay. The property is surrounded on a wider scale by the delights of the English Lake District, where marshes and rolling hills stretch onto the horizon, presenting seemingly limitless opportunities for family walks bird watching, touring and hikes, and with access also to the beauty of Southern Scotland. Add this to the popular Golf Links of Silloth Golf Course and you have the perfect destination for your break.

The Grey House is an ideal location for a your Summer or Winter Holiday and is perfect for a comfortable Short Break.

The Grey House Annexe is a secluded and deceptively spacious one bedroom self contained annexe to the rear of the owners' sea front home. It is situated in the Victorian resort of Silloth – on – Solway located on the West Cumbrian Coastline. Literally a minutes walk from the delightful promenade which looks over the Solway Firth to Southern Scotland. The sunsets here are wonderful, claim a bench and sit and watch the sun go down over Criffel Mountain in Scotland.

Silloth is a quiet seaside town which has been here since the late 19th century and is little changed, it has a wonderful and unspoilt green which runs the length of the town. Silloth suits those looking for a quieter holiday, we have none of the bustle of busy seaside resorts and you can find peace and quiet all year round, whatever the weather!

The spacious gas centrally heated & double glazed accommodation, comprises one double bedroom with a super king size Sealy bed and lovely honey pine furnishings, hall, sitting room with comfortable three piece suite and flat screen television with all sky channels, DVD player and collection of DVD's, and books, glass double doors to dining room with table and chairs, sideboard with lots of information on things to do locally, games, tennis racquets etc, fully fitted kitchen, shower room with double walk in electric shower with seat and handrail and separate toilet. It has a small private garden area with furniture, on road parking by the entrance and there is easy access to the local shops, eateries, golf club etc. One dog is welcome and this is a wonderful place for walks. The house is adjacent to an old pine wood and the annexe has lots of garden birds and even the occasional resident hedgehog.

The annexe is deceptively large and is decorated to a high standard. It has comfortable furnishings to allow you to unwind and enjoy the peace and quiet, it is an ideal hideaway. We provide all linen, towels, tea towels and a welcome tray for your arrivial cup of tea. We are about 45 minutes from Keswick and Southern Scotland so you can have the beauty of the English Lake District without the crowds, there are lots of things to do locally and Silloth has many festivals during the summer from Kites to vintage cars and our popular August Carnival.

The Cumbria/Lake District

Cumbria is a predominantly rural county which is considered one of the most beautiful regions of the United Kingdom and includes the whole of the Lake District, the Eden Valley, the North Pennines, the Furness Peninsula, and part of the Yorkshire Dales.

Silloth is situated in Western Lakeland which is a land of vivid and exciting contrasts, lying between the mountains and the sea. The Cumbrian coastal towns are all within minutes of complete peace and tranquility.

There are four main valleys, each with their own distinct character, leading from the coast into the heart of the Lake District: Ennerdale, Eskdale, Wasdale and Dunnerdale. Wasdale is the home of England's highest mountain Scafell Pike (3206 ft) and the deepest lake – Wastwater which is situated 44 miles south of Silloth

Silloth is a town with a population of around 3000, nestling on the shores of the Solway Firth, facing the hills of Southern Galloway and backed by the Lake District Fells. Silloth is noted for its invigorating but mild climate, its leisurely peaceful atmosphere and perhaps, most of all, its glorious sea views and wonderful sunsets over the water. These are considered fine enough to be recorded for posterity by Turner, the famous landscape artist. The town centre is made particularly attractive by thirty six acres of grassy, open space, known simply as 'The Green'.

The town was inspired by Carlisle businessmen as a railhead and port in the 1850’s. The Railway Company helped to develop the town and The Grey House is built on land originally owned by the railway and has been here since 1906.

The town remains unspoiled and has wide elegant tree lined streets, spacious sea front green and magnificent promenade stretching towards Skinburness which is an excellent walk.

Thousands of servicemen came to know it in World War II through the building nearby of a major aerodrome which now holds industrial firms and an impressive weekly market and car boot sale.

Wigton

There are lots of events through the year both locally and wider afield.

A useful website to visit is www.visitcumbria.com or www.golakes.co.uk

Information on things to do is available in the annexe but many of our guests take the opportunity to relax and re-charge their batteries with walks on the promenade and time to watch the sun go down over Criffel Mountain in Scotland.
