Emerald Bank Cottage
Cottage | 4 bedrooms | sleeps 8
Emerald Bank Cottage is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, one of the most scenic in the Lake District with an abundance of local wildlife including osprey and red squirrels. The cottage is equipped with everything you will need on a walking or family holiday in the Lakes, including new bathrooms and modern appliances, a drying area/boot room and even a games room with table football and air hockey. The cottage consistently gets fantastic feedback from visitors who say "We will definitely be back".
It is situated in Uldale, a small Lakeland village between Bassenthwaite Lake and Caldbeck, very rural and excellent for walking and cycling away from the crowds. The village has a tennis court and adventure playground. Mae's Tea Room and Gallery is 200 yards from the cottage, where you can enjoy a drink and a snack. The traditional "Snooty Fox" gourmet and real ale public house is only 2 minutes stroll away and the surrounding countryside of the Back o' Skiddaw and the Caldbeck Fells offer a fell lover's paradise.
In the village there is an adventure playground with a tennis court for anyone to use, as well as a tea room/art gallery next door but one and, 2 minutes' walk away, the Snooty Fox pub and restaurant where excellent food and real ales are on offer.

The Cumbria/Lake District
The northern Lake District around Uldale is beautiful and quiet, away from the crowds.
Bassenthwaite Lake is just a 5 minute drive away from the cottage where there is a sailing club that welcomes holidaymakers. The fells around the Lake have spectacular walks and an Osprey family lives in Dodd Wood, next to the Lake on the east side where you'll also find way-marked walks. On the west side of the Lake is Whinlatter Forest Park complete with way-marked walks and cycles, visitor centre and Go Ape facility.
Within easy reach are the outstanding northern lakes of Loweswater, Buttermere, Crummock Water and Ennerdale, all with breathtaking scenery and plenty of trails "where the crowds don't go". Rare wildlife, including red squirrels, is abundant here.
Uldale is the village where John Peel lived, made famous by the folk song "D'you ken John Peel?"
The cottage is situated about 15 minutes' drive from both Keswick and Cockermouth. Both of these Lakeland towns have excellent facilities for leisure, shopping and days out (e.g. Cars of the Stars or Wordsworth House).
At Keswick you'll find the Theatre by the Lake and cruises on Derwent Water, with Borrowdale just beyond the lake. There are many excellent pubs and restaurants in Keswick, Cockermouth and the surrounding area with a variety of small music and art festivals also in this part of Cumbria through the summer months.
The historic city of Carlisle is a 30 minute drive away, with its famous castle as well as large shopping centre and cinema complex.
