Cottage | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6

A charming Cottage very close to the beach in popular Island Wall.

This quaint fisherman's cottage on the popular Island Wall is literally a stone's throw from the beach.

It is a haven of tranquillity, despite being less than a 5 minute amble from Whitstable's High Street and the local chic and unique boutiques and restaurants. Local tennis courts and the Whitstable Golf course are also 5 minutes walk away.

The cottage is Grade II listed and is one of the oldest houses in the area, as its blue plaque confirms. It was formally the home of John Deane, the co-inventor of the diving helmet, in the 1850s.

The cottage stands in a substantial and secluded south/west facing garden, perfect for barbecues and dining al fresco under the pergola, and sunset cocktails whilst enjoying a game of croquet. Picnic ware is provided if you prefer sitting on the beach as the sun sets over Sheppey and the Swale.

The cottage is on 3 floors with a double bedroom and 2 additional bedrooms on the upper floor (this is a narrow staircase and would not be suitable for those who find stairs difficult. Also with the arch of the roof it maybe difficult for taller guests). The 2nd bedroom offering views to the front of the property has 2 single beds and then 3rd with views to the back has a single bed with a pull out single bed underneath.

The bathroom with WC and walk in shower is on the first floor. The ground floor has a comfortable sitting room and a light and airy dining room with a table and seating for up to 6 people, together with a large galley kitchen, a separate drying area and separate WC.

The winding staircases of the cottage are original and may prove challenging for the disabled or very small children.

The charming seaside town of Whitstable is located in the Northeast of Kent. The town is situated approximately five miles north of the city of Canterbury and two miles west of Herne Bay. From the seashore, the town of Whitstable also boasts excellent views of the Isle of Sheppey which is only a short distance away.

One of the main characteristics of the quaint town of Whitstable is the booming oyster business that it has all year round. Oyster harvesting started in the Roman times and is a continued pastime in the town of Whitstable, as well as providing the local bars and restaurants with fresh oysters and other seafood daily, Whitstable also celebrates the importance of oyster to their town with a festival.

Whitstable prides itself on its authentic and slightly bohemian charm which provides guests with a unique and welcoming feel you don't always find in big cities. Close to Whitstable harbour is the famous Harbour Street which provides guests with pretty shop front, boutiques and restaurants all of which are situated in building that haven't changed from over a hundred years.

As well as the Oyster Festival and the famous Harbour Street what is there to do in Whitstable you may wonder...but fear not, there is no lack of things to entertain and occupy your time while on your holiday. The Horsebridge Centre puts on a wide variety of events for guests to enjoy from art-house film evening to comedy nights; there is something for everyone to sink their teeth into. The beautiful Whitstable Playhouse still put on a variety of plays and other performances throughout the year, which is perfect for after dinner entertainment. If music and live bands are more your scene then you will not be disappointed as most of Whitstable's local pubs and bars regularly host live music events such as The Old Neptune, The Duke of Cumberland and The East Kent.
