The Seagull is about 10 minutes' walk from Whitstable station for rail travel to London etc. and is 2 minutes' walk from Canterbury Rd where the high street shops begin, and 10 minutes from the beach – turn off the main shopping street (Oxford St) down Nelson Road and you're at the beach!
Alternatively we would recommend the high speed train from St Pancras to Canterbury (1hr), then rent a car from Enterprise (they pick you up from Canterbury West Station).
With a Network Railcard each adult travels for about £20 then the car cost us £44 from Friday to Monday when we last rented one in November 2012. It's about 15 mins drive from Canterbury to Whitstable.

The South East England region
Kent is described at "The Garden of England" and the countryside here is beautiful! Whitstable is the jewel in the string of towns along the north coast of Kent and you'll love the town!
Kent is famous for growing hops and its Oast Houses where the hops are dried. These can be seen all round the county with their distinctive conical roofs.
Whitstable is a lovely traditional seaside town, with a full working harbour bringing fresh fish into the town each day. The town has lots of independent shops, boutiques, bars and restaurants, with some traditional Kentish pubs too!
The beach itself is shingle (not much sand in Whitstable!) and has the most magnificent views of the setting sun over the Isle of Sheppey.
Canterbury is a historic city with Canterbury Cathedral at its heart. It's a 15 minute drive inland from Whitstable and there are busses that run from near the apartment into Canterbury.
Whitstable is an easy drive from the Dover ferry port. Each time we take a trip to France, all going well, we're in the apartment 45 minutes after debarking from the ferry.
There are a range of traditional festivals in the town each year with the most spectacular being The Carnival.
The Oyster festival is a historic annual event celebrating the town's links to the oyster industry, for which the town is world famous.

"Map dot in wrong place!"
I visited for the weekend with my wife and parents, and can't fault the flat as accommodation for four adults - clean, well laid out, easy to get in, parking, well stocked kitchen. The small cour… More
