Rowan Cottage is a charming Highland crofter's cottage that was originally built in the late 19th century and extended in 1992. The cottage is surrounded by the Highland hills and is not looked on by any other properties. A row of ancient Scots Pines line one side of the garden and woods with walking/cycling track are also part of the area. Beautiful, mature trees frame the front garden and there are two swings hanging from an ancient tree.

The cottage is incredibly cosy with wood burning stove in the sitting room and a light-filled open plan kitchen/dining/sitting room. French doors open to a view of the pines and tranquil garden.

The kitchen is fitted with two electric ovens, one of which is a combination conventional oven and microwave oven. Black granite worktops and a Nespresso coffee machine and milk frother plus a Magimix add a modern, luxurious touch. There is a large fridge/freezer in the kitchen with extra fridge in the utility room for drinks etc. The dining table seats 8.

The cottage has four bedrooms; 3 double and one single. The downstairs bedroom has twin beds which can be pushed together or separated. Upstairs is a super cosy, pretty room with vaulted ceiling and dormer window. Opposite this room is a sweet single room, also with dormer window. These two bedrooms look out to the glorious Ben Scurragh mountain. The master bedroom is down the hall and has lovely views of the garden and Pines.

The cottage features a family bathroom which is upstairs and next to the master bedroom as well as a shower room which is downstairs. Both rooms have been refurbished and feature beautiful Fired Earth tiles.

Groceries can be delivered to your door via Tesco for added convenience.

Rowan Cottage is located in Whitebridge where a multitude of Highland activities are on your doorstep including: trout fishing, hill walking, golf, cycling, Loch Ness cruises and easy access to other activities such as skiing and Castles and Battlefields. Nearby are the Falls of Foyers, the town of Fort Augustus, which is situated at the south of the majestic Loch Ness, and a multitude of walking/climbing trails. Whether you're looking for a peaceful getaway and time to relax or an active break, Rowan Cottage is your perfect, homey base.

About this location

The Loch Ness region

Salmon fishing can be arranged on the River Findhorn, River Oich, River Morison, which are all within easy driving distance.

Loch Ness is close by and is the largest, deepest and most mysterious of them all! It is majestic and stunningly beautiful. There is a wonderful drive along Loch Ness on the lower road, which passes through Foyers, on the way to Inverness, which is the most scenic route. The drive down to Fort Augustus, the nearest town, which is just 8 miles away, also provides a breathtaking view right up Loch Ness.

Falls of Foyers:

The Falls of Foyers is worth a visit. A short walk down a fairly steep wooded stepped path leads you to the Falls. There is a café with a proper cappuccino machine and a small general store at Foyers.

Fort Augustus and the Caledonian Canal:

Fort Augustus is just 8 miles from Brachkashie and is the nearest town for provisions. It's an absolutely stunning drive with a look-out point at around the halfway point that gives sweeping, majestic views. There are several pubs, a butcher, post office, general store and a petrol station. The petrol station has a comprehensive general store, gift shop and hardware items.

The Caledonian Canal runs through Fort Augustus before entering Loch Ness and is the navigational route for all the boats passing along the Great Glen. There are a series of Locks in Fort Augustus for the boats to pass through, which are always fun to watch.

"Feeling like being home"

Dear Carrie, dear readers of this review,

we loved to stay at Rowan Cottage. It´s by far the most beautiful cottage we had the pleasure to rent. We lived there for only one week and didn´t want to go away. The surroundings were beautiful and quiet, rabbits and deer around the house. The ideal place for exploring the Highlands. The furniture was excelently chosen - a stilish cottage - you can see that Carrie and her family enjoy Rowan Cottage too. The kitchen and every room was perfectly equipped. Our home far away from home. Carrie was very nice and helpful.
We wish you perfect holidays at Rowan Cottage!
