What more can one say! At high tide you are completely surrounded by water and at low tide you are on the beach! The views from the large balcony are stunning, you are amongst the life on the water. Whether watching the rowers practising for The Regatta and watching the yachts arriving and leaving the harbour or the comings and goings of the fishing boats there is always something going on. Being on The Lifeboat Pier, there are obviously moments when the Lifeboat will be going out either for a practice or for a real resue. There are chairs and tables outside.

The Yorkshire region

Whitby is 45 miles from the beautiful walled city of York, with its famous Minster. Not far from inland market towns and villages such as Pickering, Helmsley, Northallerton and Guisborough. It is reached by crossing the abundant purple heather - laden North Yorkshire Moors where you can also experience the thrill of a full size steam locomotive, or the power of a diesel engine on a nostalgic journey through spectacular countryside on The North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway. Goathland (Aidensfield to those of you that watch Heartbeat!) is 10 miles from Whitby. Here you will find some lovely walks, especially down to Beck Hole and up to the Mallion Spout

Whitby is a lovely old fishing town. It has become rather trendy in recent years but still keeps all of its old charm.

Whitby's skyline is dominated by the ruins of St. Hilda's Abbey, high on Whitby's East Cliff. Spreading below Whitby, a maze of quaint alleyways and narrow cobbled streets run down to the busy quayside. Here you can find lovely shops and restaurants, in particular The White Horse & Griffin, a restaurant with rooms. It was in this 360 year old coaching inn that Captain Cook hired and fired all his crews for his trips on The Endeavour ship to find the new world. It is also here that you will find delicious meals and gorgeous rooms!

Whitby has beautiful beaches, a lovely links Golf course, plenty of walking along the Cleveland Way and delightful villages to visit. Goathland, Sandsend, Runswick & Robin Hood's Bay being within easy reach.Whitby Gothic Weekend is a twice-yearly festival for Goths in Whitby and it has now grown into one of the most popular gothic events in the world.

"The Best Place to Stay in Whitby"

Simply the best property to stay in when visiting Whitby. The location is superb and totally unique. Standing outside on the terrace (where I spent quite a bit of time!) feels like you almost at sea, on board some ocean liner, rather than being in the centre of Whitby. Feels very modern throughout, tastefully furnished and the gas fire was a welcome addition and the cinema system finished off the day nicely whilst cuddling up on the huge sofa. It is also very quiet during the evenings and mornings. We'd usually start the morning by opening the Velux window, to hear the seagulls whilst having our morning tea!
Step out of the property and across the bridge to the 'mainland' and you are straight in to the oldest and prettiest part of Whitby, close to some excellent pubs and restaurants (those voted very highly on trip advisor are all within very close proximity to the Boathouse). I can't really say much about what I didn't like and if pushed, the front door sticks a bit!

Thank you so much for your fantastic review, we are really glad that you enjoyed your stay in The Boathouse and also in Whitby, it sounds like the weather was good to you as well! That always helps! Many many thanks for your glowing review!
With kind regards
Stewart and June

stayed for 5 nights, have looked at the boathouse many times so finally decided we had to stay!! We totally loved it, there is nothing like it, Yeh there may be a few minor niggles others have mentioned but that's what they are - minor! The location is unbeatable, It has everything you need and more, the decking is perfect for early evening wine before heading out for one of our many wonderful meals! After freezing temp, rain, sleet and gale force winds we had glorious sunshine. The night of the winds was so cosy, like being in a boat, without the sickness! The bathtub is great, especially on the colder nights. The sofas were really comfy, tv easy to use, kitchen very well equipped with everything you need (I couldn't get the drier to work tho! but im sure that was me) The only problem is how on earth can we stay anywhere else when we go to Whitby?

Many thanks for your review and glad you enjoyed yourselves. We have hopefully ironed out the niggles now. Hope to see you again sometime

"Could have been nicer for the money!"

The Boathouse is in a fabulous position, it must have once been really nice, but we found it looked very tired - the spiral staircase was loose at the top despite a review in August that it needed repairing. Had a large hole in the bathroom towel, grubby rug in the lounge, and during a very windy stormy night, the shutters outside were banging on the boathouse as they werent fixed to the windows properly., hence no sleep! We enjoyed where it was though, we put up with the faults as it was a very unique place to stay. The owners should smarten it up a bit and then it would be wonderful.

"A beautifully furnished, romantic location with amazing harbour views."

The boathouse was even nicer than expected - totally unique! Furnished to a very high standard, it was well equipped and a lovely romantic location for our wedding anniversary. The outside decking area was much larger than anticipated and had amazing views across Whitby. A really special touch was to be able to have private dining at The Boathouse, provided by the hotel restaurant. We have already recommended it to friends and would love to visit again ourselves.
