About this location

The Yorkshire region

The North York Moors National Park features stunning scenery and plenty of interesting places to see and visit.

Whitby

You will never be short of something to do on your North Yorkshire holiday at Church House Farm. There are interesting places to see all year round.

Popular places to visit locally include Rosedale, Hutton-le-Hole (Ryedale Folk Museum), Goathland (TV's Heartbeat location) and the bustling market towns of Helmsley, Pickering and Stokesley. You can take a step back in time and ride on the steam railway from Pickering to Whitby and Grosmont, venturing slightly further afield is Flamingo Land Zoo and Theme Park.

The East Coast seaside resort of Whitby is close by, with Scarborough a little further away, although still easily accessible. You will find stunning beaches at Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Robin Hoods Bay which are linked by beautiful coastal paths.

In the immediate area, you will find Botton Village run by the Camphill Trust which is open to the public and has a coffee shop. The Moors National Park Centre at Danby is a visitors centre with cafe, exhibitions and is an excellent source of information on local attractions, walks etc. We are also situated close to the popular wedding venue of Danby Castle.

Cycling

With many miles of country roads, bridleways, moorland and forest tracks, the North York Moors National Park is a perfect cycling area for all abilities and disciplines. The variable terrain makes it a superb choice for both road rides and mountain biking; you will not fail to be amazed by the beautiful area. Road rides will take you over picturesque moorland, through idyllic villages and along stunning coastline whilst there are numerous areas of moorland and forestry tracks that are popular for Mountain Biking.

Why not try the Moor to Sea cycle ride on your holiday? Featuring over 80 miles of forest tracks, lanes, and the disused coastal railway, the route can be ridden in stages ranging from easy to more challenging. Alternatively Dalby Forest and Guisborough Forest are both close by and offer a range of graded Mountain Bike routes.

If you prefer to stick to the roads, you could try the Pickering & Esk Dale route. A tough 80km of climbing and moor crossings but with a variety of roads and scenery you would struggle to match anywhere else in England!

There are hundreds of cycling routes and tracks based in and around the North York Moors National Park, far too many for us to list here.

Please see below for links that may give you a better idea about what there is to offer.
