Northern England region

Whitby can be found on the dramatic North Yorkshire coast on the edge of the wild and rugged North Yorkshire Moors. The coastline was famed for its fishing fleets and though these have been much reduced, there are still close associations with fishing. The area has a number of magnificent monastic ruins including the dramatic cliff top location of Whitby Abbey.

The North Yorkshire Moors offers a wealth of unspoiled countryside with beautiful villages nestling in the valleys. Walkers and mountain bikers will particularly enjoy the footpaths and trails which criss-cross the moors. Springtime and early summer resound with the sound of curlew, grouse and lapwing as they nest amongst the heather.

From the cottage steam railway fans will be delighted to see the North Yorkshire Moors Railway steam engines as they travel into Whitby Railway Station from Pickering and Grosmont.

Whitby itself has numerous restaurants specialising in locally caught fish as well as international cuisine. Fans of Bram Stoker's "Dracula" will be able to follow in the footsteps of the vampire through the streets of Whitby. Captain James Cook, renowned explorer, set sail from the town on the Bark Endeavour. The town still retains many buildings from the period.

The seaside towns of Scarborough and Filey are within easy reach down the coast.

Viewers of ITVs "Heartbeat" will recognise many regular locations from the programme - indeed an episode was shot right outside our cottage in July 2007 and will be screened in a future series.

"Lovely cottage with breathtaking views - Home from home."

Whitby needs no introduction, but Ammonite Cottage certainly does (a little gem).
As a family we have stayed in both Ammonite and Waters Edge Cottages, we have done so for several years now and look forward to our stay each year. 2013 has been no different, this year we stayed in Ammonite cottage. Always immaculately clean, each cottage is very well equipped and very much home from home. Ammonite from the front boats fantastic views of Whitby viaduct and the bustling town itself from the rear stunning views of the North Yorkshire moors.
Big thank you to Pete, Doreen, Mike & Katherine and we will see you again next year.

"Superb cottage, ideally located"

The cottage was ideally located for us being in a quite location but within walking distance of Whitby. Upon arrival it was perfectly clean and everything was provided that we required for our stay. I would definitely recommend it if you want somewhere quiet and don't mind a bit of walking.
