The Yorkshire region

Whitby can be found on the dramatic North Yorkshire coast on the edge of the wild and rugged North Yorkshire Moors. The coastline was famed for its fishing fleets and though these have been much reduced, there are still close associations with fishing. The area has a number of magnificent monastic ruins including the dramatic cliff top location of Whitby Abbey.

The North Yorkshire Moors offers a wealth of unspoiled countryside with beautiful villages nestling in the valleys. Walkers and mountain bikers will particularly enjoy the footpaths and trails which criss-cross the moors. Springtime and early summer resound with the sound of curlew, grouse and lapwing as they nest amongst the heather.

From the cottage steam railway fans will be delighted to see the North Yorkshire Moors Railway steam engines as they travel into Whitby Railway Station from Pickering and Grosmont.

Whitby itself has numerous restaurants specialising in locally caught fish as well as international cuisine. Fans of Bram Stoker's "Dracula" will be able to follow in the footsteps of the vampire through the streets of Whitby. Captain James Cook, renowned explorer, set sail from the town on the Bark Endeavour. The town still retains many buildings from the period.

The seaside towns of Scarborough and Filey are within easy reach down the coast.

Viewers of ITVs "Heartbeat" will recognise many regular locations from the programme - indeed an episode was shot right outside our cottage in July 2007 and will be screened in a future series.

The site of the property on the river Esk was superb, with all the wildlife. The house was very clean, modern and of an excellent standard. It is situated under the Larpool Viaduct which has heaps of history that I have researched. Will try to visit again in 2014 and hopefully for a few years to come.

"Beautiful cottage in a superb location"

Excellent cottage in a gorgeous location next to the river Esk. Would highly recommend -nicely furnished and well equipped. Third stay for us.

Many thanks for your review and recommendation - we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

The location was absolutely beautiful. The house was really nice and we were provided with lots of helpful information. The only thing I would pick up on is that the telly in the dining area is a bit old and you can only watch videos on it so an upgrade would make it better. Also, there's only one shower but I understand the reasons as to why. Overall though, the house was really really lovely.

Thanks for your review and comments. It's always good to have feedback from guests in helping us to continue to provide quality accommodation in Whitby.

"Lovely location with excellent facilities"

We really enjoyed our short break , very peaceful , we enjoyed watching the wildlife( seals came up the river in the morning to feed and the Herons were nesting on the opposite bank. The house was home from home , all that was needed was provided including a very welcome food pack including drinks and milk. The house heating was spot on , everything modern and clean. We went on the steam railway to Heartbeat country and spent time in Whitby which is charming . Had excellent fresh fish (halibut and scallops) and ate home made pie in The Humble Pie shop ( delicious) We would definitely go back.
