This delightful 300 year old fisherman's cottage has been fully modernised, yet retains many original quirky and unique features. It is superbly located on the harbourside and small beach, just 20 metres from all the local restaurants, bars and shops, as well as the famous 199 steps. From the four front windows of the property guests can enjoy fabulous views directly on to the harbour/ beach and out to sea. It's near impossible to to find a front line location/luxury holiday cottage with stunning views in front of the harbour and beach, this is the one.
The cottage is fully equipped with all that the self catering visitor may need, including a modern gallery kitchen with black granite worktops, built-in Bosch oven hob and dishwasher. In the sitting room/kitchen is solid oak floorboards, a comfortable modern black leather corner suite, black wall fire and black wall mounted sky TV. Free WiFi is available. The house bathroom has marble flooring an old style Victorian bath with claw feet in addition to a modern corner shower cubicle. Old style cast radiators provide central heating.
The cottage sleeps 5 in two doubles (1 ensuite) and one single room, with an additional shared bathroom. All 3 bedrooms enjoy fantastic views over the harbour, beach and out to sea. All windows have stylish window shutters, all bedroom furniture is solid oak. Towels and bedding included in the price. Children are welcome but no pets. Please note there is moderate slope leading to the cottage and, with angled stairs both outside and inside the cottage, may mean the cottage is not suitable for the very elderly or infirm.

If you want an authentic fisherman's cottage in Whitby but with a contemporary feel, this is the place for you. The living area is compact-but that's the authenticity-every bit of the available space has been utilised. The three bedrooms have been dressed to a high standard with a compact en suite for one of the double bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs with an excellent shower and a separate bath. There is plenty of storage space in all of the bedrooms. We stayed as two parents with adult sons in their twenties, the three men are all 6' 2" or over and although you have to 'watch your head' in some areas, we loved the cottage. The kitchen is very well 'kitted out' for preparing your own food however being so central in Whitby, with such a vast range of tearooms, pubs serving food, fish and chip shops and restaurants I doubt that you will make full use of it. I would say don't use this cottage if you have elderly parents, mine wouldn't have managed any aspect of it however I know that my sons would have loved it when they were young (primary school aged) as much as did this weekend. It is ideally positioned, just down a little alley off Church Street, one of the main thoroughfares in the town. Despite this we found it to be very quiet. The position means that everything is immediately to hand. We bought a car parking ticket from the tourist information office and used the long stay car park behind their office and didn't have any trouble parking, occasionally you have to hang around for a few minutes but there was plenty of movement of cars when we visited. Had we been able to use the park and ride facility (Easter onward), we would have done.

"Lovely spot, amazing views..."
I spent a weekend in this cottage with my partner last December and it couldn't have been better! I was a bit worried that it might have been a bit noisy due to it being just off the Rowing Club,… More
Thank you for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed the location and the fantastic sea views from the front room - and all the bedrooms. I hope to welcome you back again in the future.

Beautiful cottage, in an incredible location - right in the middle of Whitby but in an alley so off the main road (though the alley is shared with the rowing club bar). From the front window you can w… More
Thank you for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed the location and the fantastic sea views. The cottage is small - it is over 300 years old - but I'll get on the case to provide more seating cushions to make things less crowded.

Thank you for your review. I am glad you enjoyed staying in the cottage. I would recommend Pickering for a day out especially if the steam train is running from Whitby. The cottage does have outside steps to the front door and these are always carefully maintained.

"Excellent location, but a few issues"
Ok, so let's start with the good points. this beach cottage is in a perfect location - very close to everything in gorgeous Whitby with absolutely magnificent views. The fixtures and fittings are… More
Thank you for your review. I am glad you enjoyed the cottage beach location and proximity to the old town. Apologies for the kitchen and en-suite area. I have followed this up with the cleaning agent who will check those areas specifically in future - but, in the case of the kitchen, I always hope the previous guests leave pots & pans etc in a clean state. The Whitby parking situation is poor in the old town and we have to rely on public car parks as there are no parking permits available for holiday cottages. Finally I have checked with the local council and they have agrred to speak to the bin collectors who must have missed the pick up day you mentioned.

"Well located comfortable cottage"
The cottage was very well located close to the harbour, town and shops. However, not very well equipped if you are self catering e.g. no cleaning cloths to wipe down worktops. The beds were comfortable… More

Thank you for your review. I am glad you enjoyed the cottage and its beachside location. I agree the building is definitely quirky given its 300 year pedigree. The Dualist toaster can be temperamental and does require watching carefully.

Thank you for your review and I am happy you enjoyed the beach location and closeness to Whitby Old Town. I agree that parking can be a challenge and the best option is always to buy an advance paking permit so that you can use any public car park in the Scarborough and Whitby area.

"Lovely quirky cottage, not really good for the less mobile"
We enjoyed our stay, but wish there had been more advice about the incline and steps to the cottage. We had our 87 year young Mother with us, fortunately she is very young minded, lively and determined, so we coped. Also I had to wash all the pans we used, they weren't very clean, and under the beds needed a clean! Despite this we thoroughly enjoyed our week, the cottage is on the right side of Whitby for us, and we would definitely return.
Thank you for your comments. I have contacted the cleaning agent who will check the kitchen pots and pans in future - however I do rely on the previous guests to leave the kitchen as it was when they arrived. I have also updated the websites cottage description to ensure that future guests understand the steps from the yard to the front door.

"Perfect location but not for young children."
This cottage is ideally located, in fact you couldn't get much more central! It is located just off the lovely cobbled Church Street, down quite a steep, public alley but in a private gated court… More
Thank you for your feedback. I am happy that you enjoyed the proximity to the beach and sea views. I have updated the cottages description to make sure that future guests are aware of the outside steps.
