Ellerby View nestles in a corner of the North York Moors National Park where the countryside meets the coast, on the outskirts of the pretty village of Hinderwell. The beach at Runswick Bay is 5 mins and the cobbled fishing village of Staithes, made famous by Captain Cook, is only a little farther. Being the last property leaving the village in the direction of Runswick Bay we have the enviable position of being surrounded on 3 sides by open fields, yet only a couple of minutes walk to the village amenities. Here you will find a P.O. and general dealers, fabulous butchers who also sell bread from the local bakery, a hairdressers, pub serving food, tennis courts and a children's play area.

On entering our home you will be greeted by a feature Amtico floor in the hallway where double french doors lead into the large lounge/dining room with 2 bay windows looking out over rolling countryside. The room is luxuriously appointed with cream and gold sofas, persian rug, rich mahogany furniture, and the walls are adorned with pictures by local artists.

The rest of our home equally reflects the award of a 5* Gold rating by Visit England. We provide fluffy bath sheets, slippers, complimentary toiletries, biscuits from our own bakery, Villeroy & Boch crockery, picnic hamper, and much more. Accommodation is in 3 double bedded rooms, 2 with fitted furniture, and a large wetroom with seat off the second. The family bathroom has a bath with separate shower and the breakfasting kitchen has solid oak units which house integral appliances. All under the watchful eye of Elliott, our resident Teddy Bear.

From our Guest Book-

Carpet of daffodils stunning at Farndale- very busy. For solitude there is the Cleveland Way, no car needed, just walk from the door. Thank you for the goodies Shirley. We look forward to our 7th visit after the summer.

Northern England region

Yorkshire is the Gem in the Crown of the North East. With such varied landscape from the Yorkshire Dales to the rugged North York Moors, and beyond to the stunning Heritage Coastline. Natural beauty abounds and changes regularily accross the nearby Moors who bathe in a blanket of purple heather in the late summer, and in a sea of yellow and green when the wild daffodils show their faces at Farndale in the spring. This part of the coastline is home to Staithes, Runswick Bay, Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay, and Scarborough. A varied mix from bustling resorts to secluded coves and beaches.

There is a wealth of things to see and do, from stately homes to visit including Castle Howard and Rieveux Abbey, to the city of York with all its splendour and history, and the majestic spa town of Harrogate, home to the Great Yorkshire Show, one of the country's oldest agricultural shows. Flamingo land, Pickering, The walled garden at Scampston, and many more tourist attractions await.

Whitby is known for its association with Dracula, the novel by Bram Stoker, the endless climb of steps up to the Abbey, and the famous Whalebone on Westcliff. Primarily today it is a bustling holiday destination that has retained much of its character but still pays homage to its past, where visitors can enjoy the Captain Cook museum, Lifeboat museum, and explore the narrow streets of shops accessed by the swing bridge. From here there are regular sightseeing boat trips, and in early August the Whitby Regatta takes place, culminating in a spectacular firework display. Twice a year the Goth weekend is held where the town is host to many colourful characters and contrary to public perception this is one of the friendliest fun weekends in the calendar.

Ellerby View is ideally situated to offer a base for exploring, but then returning to, a quiet relaxed location. The quaint old fishing village of Runswick Bay,where the tiny cottages cling to the cliff, accessed only by narrow cobbled lanes is just a short walk or couple of minutes by car. The pub, with its spectacular views over the Bay and Cliffs beyond

serves food, as does the cafe on the beach between March and October. There are many excellent eateries in the area from Michelin starred restaurants, to pubs and simple coffee shops. The house file has many of my favourites

listed!! , along with lots of brochures for attractions and ideas for days out.

The area offers a wealth of activeties including golf, horseriding, cycling, fishing, and not forgetting good old sand castle building!! We have walks too numerous to mention, with the Cleveland Way on our doorstep. The NYM steam train has its home in Grosmont and in the summer regularily hosts dining evenings, and in December Santa finds time in his busy schedule to visit. A trip on this is a must! Nearby is the village of Goathland, made famous by Heartbeat and better known as "Aidensfield." It has also featured in the Harry Potter films. In August Glaisdale hosts the Esk Valley Theatre, and throughout the month most villages hold their annual village shows, with Hinderwell's taking place in the field opposite the house.

Late July sees the arrival of Scarecrow week in the village with many gardens displaying lovingly made colourful characters, with the full size Bobby usually appearing somewhere, and he certainly enforces the speed limit!! We can't guarantee the weather but we can guarantee a warm Yorkshire welcome!

"lovely holiday"

Loverly place to stay as described on web site clean spacious everything you need for a great holiday. My 87yr old moyher was well catered for the wet room was great for her,the only thing it lacked fo… More

I am delighted you enjoyed your holiday and have always found elderly guests were more than happy with the support given to them by the seat I have provided under the shower, however a grab rail is something I will look into, thank you. The carpet in the bathroom is there for the comfort of older guests who don't always appreciate cold tiles or wood flooring and a musty smell has never been reported before so I can only assume lack of use of the extractor caused this. I will move the sign asking guests to turn this on to a more prominent position.

Had a simply wonderful stay in Ellerby View. We loved every minute of it and really didn't want to leave.
The location is fab, being the last house in the village there are fields to three sides. During our stay the wheat was high and golden and looked gorgeous.
Inside the house is everything one needs for a relaxed break including a very welcome bottle of wine and pack of biscuits, (baked at the Donkin bakery). Shirley has even thought to provide buckets and spades for the kids. Each bedroom was provided with slippers and toiletries as well, a very pleasant surprise.
All kitchen ware etc was very high end and easily accessible.
We only used the family bathroom but larger groups could, if necessary, also use the wet room.
Loved the books , DVDs and CDs, a very nice touch.
The front garden proved useful for an end of day runaround with our little one while the rear terrace was great for quiet colouring time.
Ellerby View is fantastic value for money and a truly lovely home from home. Shirley really has thought of everything, there are instructions for all equipment in place and she has collated a box file of maps, brochures etc to give visitors ideas for days and or meals out.
It's a very easy walk into the village for bits and bobs, the post office can supply many staples and the butchers is really good for sausage and bacon.
We pre ordered from Sainsbury for a delivery to be made on the evening of our arrival which worked out perfectly as we didn't wish to have every meal out.
Those we did were generally very good, Trenchers, The Ellerby Hotel, Cosa Nostra, Cliffemount Hotel.
Runswick Bay is good for a few hours, it's a nice bay with a decent cafe perched just above. Pity about all the dogs though.
It is about a half hour walk though with a four year old in tow, down a very steep hill. The view down to the bay is stunning.
The better option beach wise for us though was Sandsend. ( 4.00 pounds per person on the bus). Fewer dogs by far, a great long beach with little pools here and there and a lovely walk along the beach to Whitby.
All in all it was a fab stay in a great place, testament to that is in the guest book as a lot of entries were from people who were on their 5th, 6th, 7th stays. Would definitely stay again if in the area.
Thanks Shirley.

"Splendid property; garden; range of equipment and location."

Booking was straightforward, with friendly owner contactable and offering help at all stages.
The bungalow is extremely well presented, clean and comfortable, offering all the equipment we could possibly need. The easy access throughout and en-suite wet room provided the ideal environment our family member with mobility difficulties, and for those of us without.
The open location, great views and relaxing garden, together with proximity to the amenities of the village, gave us enjoyable 'at home' days, whilst ready access to the coast allowed us to visit many bays and resorts. All together, a great property.

"Beautiful place to stay near Whitby"

Ellerby view was a great place to stay, clean and well looked after and with it being a bungalow it was very easy for a member of the family who is disabled.
The gardens and views were spectacular, I would reccomend Ellerby View to anyone wishing to rent a Bungalow close to Whitby.

"Excellent property and location"

The bungalow is situated on a quiet road in the village where there are a great butchers, post office/store and 3 pubs all within easy walking distance. We had an enjoyable day in Witby which is only 15mins drive away,we also went to Saltburn but we were 100 years to late!.
If you do not want to use your car the bus service is excellent with a stop outside the drive.
Highly recommend
