The Northern England / Yorkshire / Yorkshire region
The North of England was a great centre of industry – Leeds, Bradford and Sheffield being at the forefront in past centuries. Nowadays Leeds is a great shopping centre, with cutting-edge bars and clubs, and Sheffield is one of the best nights out in England. If you’re looking for something more sedate, York offers narrow medieval streets and the most spectacular cathedral in the North, York Minster.
Whitby area
Whitby is located along the East Coast of England between Scarborough to the south and Middlesborough to the north. The 26 mile heritage coast line of the North York Moors National Park is spectacular, with towering cliffs which reach 650 feet / 200 metres at Boulby; the highest point on the east coast of England. Robin Hood bay, associated with fishing and smuggling, is the focal point of the coastline.
You can visit the Captain James Cook Memorial Museum at Whitby, which has a fine sandy beach, historic Georgian buildings, and a ruined abbey. Walkers will enjoy the fine views from the Cleveland Way national trail, which runs the entire length of the coastline of the North York Moors National Park.
How to get there
Acessible by train, road and by air. The nearest motorway junction is the M62 Junction 38. Further details available on application.
