The Yorkshire region
This North East corner of Yorkshire is dominated by the famous North Yorkshire Moors and Whitby Abbey on the coast. The moors are spectacular in the late summer/ autumn months when the heather blooms purple and there are many fine walks to be had, either across the moors themselves or in the valleys and down by the becks and the River Esk itself. Discover grey stone villages and a variety of excellent pubs and inns serving local produce. The coast is home to Whitby, seat of the Dracular tales, Scarborough, overlooked by its castle above the fishing harbour and the quieter town of Filey with it's peaceful bay and fishing cobles.
Something for everyone in North Yorkshire.
Take the Steam train from Whitby. The trains run all year round from Whitby to Pickering ( a lovely market town known for its antique shops and street markets) calling at Goathland where Heartbeat was filmed and several other pretty stations on the way .
One weekend, every October, Pickering holds a war weekend where the whole town dresses up, bands play and a parade marches past. Visit the soup kitchen for a delicious wartime stew.
Come to one of the Whitby Goth Weekends and admire the fabulous costumes. Do the Ghost Walk.
Visit in August for the sailing Regatta or join in Folk Week around the cosy old pubs and eat fish and chips on the harbour wall.
Take a pirate ship out of Whitby or Scarborough - enjoy Scarborough's SeaFest in July/August, with stalls and sea shanties.
Pay a visit to Robinhoods Bay its tiny fishing cottages, rock pool bay and National Trust Centre. Visit the yummy chocolate boutique with its chocolate fondue, dine at The Bay for fabulous Sea bass..

"WONDERFUL AND PEACEFUL LOCATION"
We spent a lovely week at this cottage. The cottage was well equipped and very comfortable in a wonderful location. Able to walk into Whitby easily without using our car. What a joy watching the steam trains on the other side of the river from out of the windows! Also saw a seal in the river!

A lovely three storey cottage. Location secluded - steep slope to cinder path but worth it. Everything provided bar towels. Too many 'personal' items left in the cottage for our taste - felt we were intruding somehow.

"peaceful secluded homely place to stay"
The property Is part of a bigger complex but doesn't feel like it. On arrival we found it exceptionally clean, very tastefully furnished and accessorised, and it gave us an instant feeling of relaxation, just what we were wanting from it. The close proximity to the river is a calming influence. As a self catering property very little is not provided. The wildlife around is a pleasure to see. There were Ducks, a Heron and a Grebe on the River, Rabbits in the back garden and tracks where Deer roam. We had 3 nights and were very reluctant to leave. Will certainly visit again.

"relaxing and peaceful holiday cottage"
We were amazed just how nice the cottage was, well decorated and very homely. The welcome pack was a delightful extra as a cuppa on arrival was most welcome after a drive from Gloucestershire. There was even milk in the fridge. A truly quiet relaxing break which was very much enjoyed. Will definitely go back there.

"A Superb Cottage set in a fantastic location."
The Property was very clean, had all the home comforts you could wish for and was set in a most beautiful location, It was very peaceful and quiet. Only a 5 minute drive into Whitby or you could walk along the cinder path which took around 15 minutes. It was lovely to watch the Steam Trains go past on the other side of the river, My husband was like a big kid, he made a note of the train times and when we were in the property he would be out with his camera to take photos as it went by! There is a sainsburys supermarket just near by to do a food shop should you so wish. I cannot say anything negative about this property and we would gladly stay there again. Nice to see the lovely wildlife along the river bank too.

"MY FEW DAYS OF HEAVEN !!"
Well what can I say ......................... Stunning, Peaceful, Tranquill location, stunning views from every window. The steam train across the Esk was a wonderful sight to see. The cottage was spotless and clean, and had a well equipped kitchen for your every day needs. Even the ten minute walk into Whitby was a pleasure to do, going over the via duct and along a ashen track. We have stayed in central Whitby in cottages numerous times, but we definitely preferred this quiet, peaceful haven. And if you want to visit nearby places, its just a short drive in the car to Robin Hoods Bay, Sandsend, Runswick Bay, Goathland ect There was ample parking, and the whole site it well maintained with manicured lawns, with not one drop of rubbish in sight. Myself and my partner had a truly relaxing few days. We will be Back !!!!

"Excellent accommodation and location for a peaceful vacation"
This lovely homely cottage has everything you would need for a peaceful vacation, within easy walking distance over the impressive viaduct to Whitby or surrounding villages, we even walked to Robin Hoods Bay only 6 miles away! Lovely views of the tidal river, and the passing Steam trains (we recommend this, well worth the money). Thank you for sharing your well equipped comfortable home, we had a wonderful time.

"Good value and very comfortable."
The cottage was so much better than the photos. Lovely river setting and a pleasant stroll into Whitby. Great place for train enthusiasts as the steam trains would pass the cottage across the river. I would recommend it..

We had a great couple of days here. everything was so clean with fully equipped kitchen etc. we have a 3 year old and he had a lovely few days watching the steam trains out the window, feeding the ducks, playing on the grass. Hosts had left us a few things to start our holiday off well which was surprising and appreciated. We will be back.
