Northern England region

The North Yorkshire Moors National Park is a stunning area which features spectacular moorland , picturesque villages and stunning seaside towns and beaches. The area is steeped in history and visits to the ancient Whitby Abbey or the quaint fishing village of Robin Hoods Bay will provide the basis for a superb holiday.

Whether your interests are outdoors or indoors the area has something for everyone.

Whitby

Whitby and its harbour are set in a ravine at the mouth of the River Esk and many activities are centered around the towns maritime location. Fishing trips for all standards are available along the harbour including deep sea fishing, short fun trips around the harbour and even crabbing along the harbour wall. The long sandy beach and the colourful beach huts are a popular attraction and all the usual seaside attractions can be found along the quayside.

Fans of walking and hiking are well catered for as Whitby is a popular stop along the Cleveland Way with the coastal paths offering superb views: whales, dolphins and seals can often be spotted along the coastline. There are also superb inland walks around the surrounding villages, many of which have their own village hostelries offering welcome food and drink after a days hiking. The old railway line built to transfer goods and people between Whitby Scarborough was bought by Scarborough Council after the line was closed and was preserved as The Cinder Path and now provides a pleasant level path for walkers and cyclists.

Railway enthusiasts will be pleased to find the North Yorkshire Moors Railway starts in Whitby and steam trains run along the line at specific times of the year.
