The British Columbia region
Set between the province of Alberta and the Pacific Ocean, British Columbia is a land renowned for its remarkable diversity and mild climate. This gives rise to an endless array of places to see and things to do.
There are mountains to marvel at, climb or ski down, depending on the season. There’s much history to discover – from the Aboriginal settlers of over 10,000 years ago to James Cook’s British landing in 1778. There is endless coastline and beaches to comb and cosmopolitan cities to explore. Home to much wildlife, there are many animals to observe and stretches of rainforest to hike through. An explorers or adventurers paradise.
Whistler area
Woodrun is situated in Blackcomb, a renowned resort in the Benchlands area of Whistler. The village has several hotels, condominiums, eateries and bars to accommodate the many visitors each winter.
The two mountains developed for skiing are Whistler Mountain and Blackcomb Mountain. Lifts on Blackcomb rise to 2284m and there are 24 major lifts. It’s the largest ski area in North America and has a skiable area of 8171 acres.
Whistler is to host the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games including the alpine technical and speed events, sliding events and paralympic events.
Blackcomb also has a glacier enabling summer skiing between June and August. During summer months, Whistler Mountain is home to a mountain bike park that uses the Fitzsimmons and Garbanzo quad chairlifts.
Blackcomb also becomes a haven for hikers once the snow and ice have melted. There are paved paths and mountains trails that wind past waterfalls and wildlife.
There are also championship golf courses designed by some of the world's top players and moulded around the natural architecture of the mountains. Water sport enthusiasts come here too for kayaking and windsurfing. For anglers there's plenty of salmon and trout to fish.
