Home description
We stress that our almost unique location means that you don't need a car! The cottage and garden are bathed in sunshine from morning to evening, and the property has been fully renovated with extreme comfort in mind. There are two double bedrooms together with a new bathroom and a new fully-equipped kitchen. The walled and totally-secure floral cottage garden has a barbecue and wrought-iron table and chairs.
Newton's Cove, just 50 paces from Puffin's front door.
Puffin Cottage with its pretty sun-trap garden

The West Country / Dorset region
Weymouth, which is almost a peninsula, is said to have it's own mini-climate which means that often when nearby inland towns are experiencing inclement weather, our resort is bathed in sunshine. It has been a port since Roman times. The town is at the centre of the famous Jurassic coast and there are daily boat trips and bus rides available to view the area. Nothe Fort - built in Napoleonic times - is just a few hundred yards from Puffin Cottage at the edge of the rolling Nothe public gardens. The fort has undergone a huge restoration programme in recent years and is open to the public. In Hope Square 100 yards away (between Puffin Cottage and the Harbour) you'll find the local museum and the Time Walk -- a chance to experience the sights, sounds and smells of Medieval times. Thomas Hardy's birthplace, the world-famous Royal Tank Corps Museum, the Royal Signals Museum, the Portland Sailing Academy and Sailing Centre -- host to the 2012 sailing Olympics -- Portland Bill Lighthouse, the Lodmoore Leisure Park and a mass of other sites of interest are all within walking, bussing or driving distance.
Weymouth area
The Black Plague started in Weymouth when it was brought ashore from a foreign Ship and spread across the nation!! A more worthy claim to fame is that it was here that King George III helped to create the tradition of seaside holidays when he built a lodge -- now a hotel -- on the seafront and regularly bathed in the sea to the sound of music played by fully-clothed musicians standing in the waves. The fastidiously-maintained Georgian terraces of houses -- most of which are hotels and guest houses today -- sprang up as the nation's Georgian worthies built appropriately-suitable homes in the rush to join their monarch on his coastal jaunts. Weymouth Carnival in August is one of the West Country's big events but he town hosts many other events from vintage vehicle rallies to kite festivals. Visit the resort's official website http://www.weymouth.gov.uk/Visitors/home.asp?svid=17 for dates.

Further details indoors: A car is completely superfluous here! It's a mere 50 paces from the front door to bathing steps into the sea on the Riviera-style sea wall around Newton's Cove and Nothe Fort and public gardens. Yet it's also only a few minutes walk to the harbour, the main town centre and main big sandy beach where there are all the usual holiday attractions ranging from donkey rides to Punch and Judy. The front garden is walled and has a tall, lockable solid wood gate, giving security and privacy.
Further details
Because of the age of the property, the stairs are steep and we feel that this makes it unsuitable for very small children and anyone with mobility problems.
