The West Country / Dorset region
Portland is situated at the heart of the Dorset coast with the dramatic Chesil Beach streaching away to the west and unspoiled and wild coastline to the east. Portland, although referred to as an island, is connected to the mainland by a causeway but retains all the charm and romance of an island atmosphere. It has a long heritage of fishing and stone quarrying, with a number of the quarries now managed as nature reserves and sculpture parks.
Dorset is a very rural county and well kept secret, with large tracts of totally unspoiled and beautiful countryside and coast. It is possible to walk all day without meeting another person and the flora, fauna and geology of the area make it unique.
Weymouth area
The area is celebrated as a leading venue for water based activities, in particular sailing, with the National Sailing Academy ( venue for the 2012 Sailing Olympics) only 5 minutes from Bayview with facilities for tuition, hire, storage and launching boats. In addition, Weymouth is officially the sunniest place in Britain!
Other local activities include: +riding +rock climbing +windsurfing +kite surfing +canoeing +diving (beach and boat) +angling (beach and boat) +fossil hunting +bird watching +golf +cycling +brand new gym with pool and spa within easy reach
