"Do not book this cottage unless you like damp conditions"
I booked this cottage as a weeks break with my family before embarking on an operation for Cancer. We arrived at the cottage and as soon as we got through the door the damp smell hit us. There was dam… More
I was disappointed to hear that this guest did not enjoy her stay as other guests have been very positive in their feedback.
In response to some of these comments - there is not damp on all the walls - Portland coastal stone cottages can be prone to some damp but this is rectified by maintaining it well and the correct use of heating and ventilation.
There was a small leak under the sink and the plumber was coming to fix this the next day but the guests only stayed for one night - sadly a bag of gardening weeds had blown over - any air fresheners will be moved as it would be unfortunate for anyone to swallow one of these or a humidifier.
Approximately forty photographs were send mostly of under the stairs where the cleaning/maintenance and gardening things are kept and one photo of her parents sitting on the sofa looking happy having a glass of wine. For the future painting and gardening products will be kept in a shed.
Finally I would like to point out that I did contact this guest by email and telephone and that I do not live in the property while it is being rented.
The photographs and description on the holiday website fully reflect a full and true condition of the property and I would wish all guests staying here to have a pleasant and happy holiday.

With reference to the central heating I explained fully on the telephone how to use the heating system which is relatively new and straight forward. The full instructions if needed are in the holiday let manual for the control switch which is on the wall in the lounge. As I did not hear back from the guests again I assumed that they had managed to switch the heating on. I would like to point out that I am always available by telephone or email if guests have any questions regarding the cottage.

We stayed at 'Bakers Dozen' for a week in the summer holidays with our 2 children. We absolutely loved Weymouth and Portland and found this house to be in a very quiet area of Portland with Portland Bill Lighthouse at the end of the road (although it would be a long walk). I would recommend a car as walking anywhere would be hard. The actual house was lovely, a very old cottage with lots of character but has been modernised with decor etc. The loft room (double bedroom) was lovely and comfortable although the stairs are quite steep! The other bedroom on the 1st floor was also as lovely, the children slept very well in this room and was a good size. The bathroom has lovely views of the sea too. We found the downstairs of the house to be quite cold and damp though (although I'm sure this is due to the age of the property) but the owner did advise us to use the de-humidifier in the lounge room which did help a great deal. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything you could need including a washing machine. We did have a problem with the oven tripping the electric during our stay but we contacted the owner and she was with us within 10 minutes (she was lovely too) and she arranged for a new oven to be fitted within 48 hours, so didn't really cause us any problems.
As for the area, we found a number of shops locally to get all your groceries etc (although you would need to drive) and the drive to Weymouth was direct and took appx 15 minutes. Weymouth itself was lovely, the beach was sandy and we were lucky enough to have good weather most days, so this is where we spent most of our time. I would recommend a trip to the Sealife centre, we loved it there and found a great place called Osmington Mills for Rock Pooling with a beautiful pub that does great food. We drove to Bournemouth one day as the air show was on during our stay which only took 1 hour and Poole was a little closer. A visit to Portland Bill Lighthouse is well worth it, although we didn't actually go up the lighthouse we spent a few hours there flying kites on the grass area and climbing the rocks round the lighthouse, you get great views on a clear day! Overall I would recommend this holiday rental either for a quite break or a family holiday - we didn't want to leave!! Were hoping to go back again next summer.
