Sea Shell Cottage offers spacious accommodation in the heart of the highly desirable Brewers Quay area of Weymouth.

The cottage has recently been refurbished to an exceptional standard, achieving a finish which offers all the conveniences of modern living whilst retaining the original character of the property. Outside there is a suntrap courtyard area, with furniture, offering the ideal environment for dining al fresco on a warm summers evening.

Once the site of a Victorian Brewery, the cobbled streets and paved courtyards beside the old harbour, known as Brewers Quay, have been transformed into a cosmopolitan shopping village.

The area is home to a selection of shops housing arts & craft items, speciality food stores and gift shops. Here you will also find a range of attractions including Weymouth Museum and Timewalk, a fascinating journey through Weymouth’s colourful history.

Brewers Quay is also home to a fine range of eateries, from cakes and pastries at the Courtyard Restaurant, to traditional pub food and ales at the Excise House Pub, there really are gastronomic options to suit all tastes and appetites.

The Esplanade is within a few minutes’ walk and offers a picture postcard seaside setting with the golden sands of Weymouth Beach flanked by shops selling traditional beach fayre such as ice creams, fish and chips and buckets and spades.

Nearby, the shallow waters of Weymouth Bay provide fantastic conditions for kite surfing, wind surfing and sailing, and will play host to a series of major sailing events in the run up to the 2012 Olympics.

But there is so much more in the area for those who prefer to keep their feet on dry land. From crazy golf to go karts, the area is home to a fantastic range of attractions sure to entertain the whole family.

For those in search of culture, Portland Castle is nearby and is considered to be one of King Henry VII’s finest coastal forts. Literary fans should head to ‘Hardy’s Cottage’, the former home of Thomas Hardy, which has remained largely unchanged from the time Thomas lived there and is where he wrote ‘Greenwood Tree’ and ‘Far from the Madding Crowd’.

Blue Chip Holidays can offer Dorset holiday cottages in many of the county’s towns, each of which has a slightly different experience to offer than the next.

Weymouth

Weymouth town and Portland island are steeped in history. From Roman Galleys to Spanish Galleons the harbour and Island have seen more than their fair share of naval history and Royal patronage. While Henry VIII contented himself building forts to stave off foreign invasion, George III made Weymouth his summer holiday residence, attracting many wealthy ladies and gentlemen to the fashionable seaside town, and influencing its architecture leaving many magnificent buildings, statues and landmarks.

Blessed with beaches that range from the pebble rich 18 mile Chesil Beach tombolo, to Weymouth Beach’s sandy shores, Weymouth and Portland have a great choice of places to visit and enjoy in both the hot summer months and the wild winter weeks. Add this to miles of stunning Jurassic coastline, a great range of family friendly attractions and a good choice of museums, and you have a surprisingly rich range of activities to keep you busy during your stay in the area.
