The West Country region
Weymouth is a diverse and popular resort set in the heart of the UNESCO Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. It’s bounded by Lyme Bay and Chesil Beach to the west and Weymouth Bay to the south and stretching to the Purbecks to the east.
Weymouth is a major seaside resort, with its long arc of golden sands. King George III spent his summers in the town, and the curves of the Georgian Esplanade looks out over Weymouth Bay and its safe, clean sandy beach. Weymouth has beautiful fishing harbour with ferry connections to the Channel Islands and France.
The area is one of the sunniest places in Britain.
The beach - Punch and Judy, Children's Snail Rollercoaster, Bungee Trampoline, Donkey rides and Sand Modeller. As well as chalets, deckchairs and sun-lounger, pedaloes and floats.
Land train -the seafront land train is suitable for all the family and includes facilities for pushchairs and wheelchairs.
The harbour - One of the most picturesque harbours in Europe, Weymouth’s 17th Century Waterfront is home to some of Dorset’s finest pubs, restaurants, family attractions and architecture.
Northe Fort - Barrack Road
Brewers Quay - shopping and leisure complex with crafts, ten-pin bowling, science centre and small brewery, as well as The Weymouth Museum and Timewalk showing the history of the area, in the old Devenish Brewery
Deep Sea Adventure - underwater exploration, shipwrecks, large play area, shop etc,
Sea Life Park - marine displays, pools, games and quizzes, play area, shop, etc,
Chesil Beach- drive to East Fleet with its ruined church. The beach is 18 miles long from Portland to West Bay, and with its 180 billion pebbles, it is separated the mainland for the most part by a brackish lagoon - The Fleet. Made famous by many pirate tales.
Jordon Hill Roman Temple- just around the coast from Weymouth on the A353 at Overcombe.
Birdwatching - The RSPB Reserves at Radipole and Lodmoor are situated close to the town centre and are excellent for birdwatchers and those who interested in being close to nature.
White Horse- a picture of George III etched into the hillside.
Portland - Portland Bill lighthouse, on the tip of Portland has some excellent walks and dramatic scenery, and a popular cafe - The Lobster Pot
Sharky's - soft play zone for the children - 9 Custom House Quay, Old Harbour, Weymouth, Dorset, DT4 8BG

"Small and sweet, a real cosy cottage"
We needed a base for 2 days, near the Radipole RSPB reserve in Weymouth. Upwey Cottage was the answer! Compact, comfortable, with good wifi and efficient heating, we were very pleased with our stay. T… More

"A wonderful home-from-home cosy cottage, recommended"
We loved this little cottage. Our boys (6 & 4) loved the games/toys that the owners children had kindly donated, there were so many! We enjoyed looking at all the books on offer, however, due to us being so busy, we never got to read any!
My husband found the bed/pillows not to his liking, but I found them pretty okay. I would have given them a 'good' rating for myself and the kids.
A lovely bonus was the free Wi-fi, which helped us when searching for different places to visit.
The cottage's location is perfect for exploring Dorset, we visited Sand World, Monkey World, Tank Musuem, Lulworth park and castle, Weymouth beach, Weymouth cinema and bowling, Corfe Castle (a must!), Seatown beach for fossil hunting and Abbotsbury gardens.
Don't miss the Weymouth park and ride, it's amazing value - parking and return bus journey for the four of us was only £1.50, I'm still in shock at that, lol.
Things I would have liked at the cottage would have been a bath and a secure garden, however, we knew about both these things before booking, so it's not a criticism, just something to note for us next time.
I couldn't work out how to control the shower temperature, but I have left a note for the owner, and it could have been something we missed.
All in all a very lovely time was had by all of us, and our time in the evenings/mornings was made so much better by being in this cottage.

Cottage was clean, tidy and well equipped. However some of the furniture, double bed and sofas were not at all comfortable. The garden is not connected to the cottage, you have to cross a small road/… More
The cottage has all new beds and mattresses. The garden is across through from the parking space, which is conveniently located next to the cottage. The bathroom is not damp and is newly painted. We are sorry that the reviewer did not enjoy their stay as much as our other guests this year.

"A charming cottage with an excellent location and views"
Upwey Cottage was the perfect experience for our first holiday as a family of 4. The booking process and information from the owner was first class as was this charming cottage. The cottage itself was everything we wanted and needed. It was well equipped (as per the description), the website photos were perfect matches for the cottage and there were plenty of books and toys as a brilliant surprise for Isabel (age 4 1/2). If anything the cottage had more space than we were expecting! The cottage was perfect for family living in the day and then a relaxing space for Mum and Dad in the evening.
As for location, again it couldn't have been better. Situated just outside Weymouth, it took no time at all to get to the local attractions such as the Sealife Centre, Weymouth Harbour and Weymouth Town Centre. It was also excellently located to travel slightly further to Lulworth Castle and Cove, Farmer Parmers, Poole, Sandbanks, etc.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable time, and the excellent Upwey Cottage really added to our experience.

"Great for long weekend!"
This gorgeous little cottage comfortably housed 3 adults and 1 toddler. It was cosy, had everything we needed including toys & books for my son and was ideally situated. I would recommend this cottage and even return myself.

"Beautiful and comfortable cottage"
We stayed here with our 2 and 4 year olds in order to catch up with friends for the weekend and really just needed a base in Upwey. However, we think this cottage is a real gem. Clean and warm and cosy with comfortable beds and lots of nice touches. The open plan kitchen / living area worked well and the flat screen / dvd player was great for the odd kids movie. There was a really good collection of books and games for adults and kiddies which was a bonus. It was pristine, but in a welcoming homely way.
We walked to Upwey station and got the train to weymouth and also walked to the Old Ship Inn where we were able to get a table for 4 kids and 4 adults in its own area, thus not feeling bad if the kids made a squeak or two.
We highly recommend.

"Fabulous little cottage - full of character"
Upwey Cottage is a great little getaway, easy to travel to but tucked away down a very quiet unmade cul de sac. The owners have furnished it well and it has everything you might need including a box full of toys for young children, a well stocked bookshelf and a good wifi connection. The location is excellent, it's a short walk or drive to practically everything you could think of - paper shop, chippy, supermarket etc. There is a lovely view across the fields from the kitchen window.

"The most idyllic holiday cottage"
This is the second time that I have visited this gorgeous cottage. It is compact but has everything you could need for a short break. The garden is sweet and my children aged 11 and 6, love the cottage and found plenty to do in the area and have already requested to go again.
Even washing up is a pleasure here - when you look out the window at the calm, rural view.
Thoroughly recommend it.
