Home description

3 bedroom traditional cottage by the sea, near Westport, Co. Mayo. Situated at Rosmoney on Clew Bay, 15 minutes drive from Westport, the cottage is right on the quiet quayside of one of the inlets.
The cottage, which has been recently renovated, has 3 bedrooms (one with a double bed, one with two singles, the third with one single), kitchen, bathroom with bath and electric shower, sitting/dining room. It easily sleeps 6 people with the addition of a sofabed and there are two cots available. There is a large child-friendly enclosed garden, with a lawn and ample parking space offroad. The sea is a the bottom of the front garden, across the access road.
Rosmoney is a convenient location for touring the West of Ireland, as well as relaxing on the beaches of Clew Bay. You can visit Achill and even take a boat trip to Clare Island. A a ten-minute drive from the cottage to Westport brings you to shops, buses and the railway station. Clew Bay is ideal for watersports, sailing and fishing; the cottage is close to Mayo Sailing Club.
Please note that this is a traditional Irish cottage and not a new bungalow or apartment purpose built for the rental market. What it may lack in modern design, it more than makes up for in beautiful and unique surroundings, its location by the sea shore and a safe private garden for children to play in. It is priced accordingly and the sterling prices for 2009 have been fixed to be of benefit to UK visitors.

The North West Ireland / County Mayo region

Co. Mayo has miles of spectacular coast line to explore as well as mountains to climb, such as Croagh Patrick or Nephin Beg. Take a boat trip to Clare Island or drive to Achill Island.
From the tranquility of Cong Abbey and Lough Corrib in the south, via the Logh Mask drive to the spectacular setting of the historical Ceidh Fields in the North, Mayo has much variety to offer. There are plenty of megalithm tombs, round towers and crannogs to explore, including Granuaille's Castle. There are plenty of golf courses and opportunities for sailing, horseriding, fishing and walking.
The Westport area is also a central location for exporing a little farther, for instance to Connemara in the south or the beaches of Inniscrone and Easky in Sligo to the north.

Westport / Rosmoney area

Westport is a unique town because of its layout and location. It was planned and designed by the renowned architect James Wyatt. Situated near Croagh Patrick, Ireland's most famous mountain and on the shores of Clew Bay, its old world harbour was once a thriving port serving the County of Mayo. Westport is very different in design from any other Irish town. A visit to Westport will confirm its uniqueness.
Westport is hosting the 2007 Fleadh Cheoil Mhaigheo from May 11th - 14th 2007. The festival is a series of organised events of Irish music, song, dance and competitions inspiring younger generations to continue the tradition of our proud heritage.
Within short drives from Westport are the most beautiful, biggest and safest beaches in Europe. They will be found by driving West towards and beyond Louisburgh. Most beaches are signposted and very uncrowded. Mayo has a large number of Blue Flag Beaches.
Westport is a centre of the famous Glenans Sailing Centres providing residential sailing courses, including sail board training. Rosmoney, Westport is the base for Mayo Sailing Club. A picturesque cruising ground exists among the archipelago of islands in the east of Clew Bay. There are slipways at Rosmoney, Westport Quay and Old Head suitable for launching dinghies and trailer-sailers.
Westport and Westport Quay have a wide range of excellent restaurants catering for all tastes and prices. Even for the non-drinker a visit to the friendly Westport pubs is a must.
The music and atmosphere is great and many pubs serve bar food.
