The West Country region
Somerset is set in the south west of England which borders Bristol and Gloucestershire to the north, Wiltshire to the east, Dorset to the south-east, and Devon to the south-west. It is rich county of food produce and history. The county holds the famous Cheedar Gorge from which Cheddar Cheese originates from, plus the abundency of apple orchards which make some of the best cider in the world. Glastonbury, located near by has its riches of history along with the famous cities of Bath and Bristol which are 30 - 50 minutes away. Bristol is the largest centre of culture, employment and education in the region. Its prosperity has been linked with the sea since its earliest days. The commercial Port of Bristol was originally in the city centre before being moved to the Severn Estuary at Avonmouth; Royal Portbury Dock is on the western edge of the city boundary. The City of Bath was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1987. The city has a variety of theatres, museums, and other cultural and sporting venues, which have helped to make it a major centre for tourism.
Wells and its amazing Cathedral is also located not far from the property.
Weston-super-Mare is a great seaside resort with all the traditional seaside attractions. The house is located so close to the beach and clarence park which hosts many events such as the south west live end of june, Jazz on the lawn and amazing sand sculpture.
The wide sweep of Weston Bay has miles of clean sandy beach, and a level promenade boasting superb views over the Channel, particularly from the 40-metre high Wheel of Weston. There is lovely coastline and countryside to explore, and Cheddar, Glastonbury, Wells, Bristol, Bath and the Mendip and Quantock Hills are all within easy reach.
Weston beach has designated areas for wind and water sports, and there are boat trips around Weston Bay and further afield.
Undercover attractions include the Grand Pier SeaQuarium, the North Somerset Museum and the world's largest dedicated Helicopter Museum. There is a wide variety of entertainment on at the Playhouse Theatre and the Winter Gardens to suit all ages, and an excellent selection of restaurants, cafes, bars and nightclubs.
Over the last 3 years the seafront and promenade has been transformed by a major refurbishment, and the new Grand Pier which is now open all year round.
