The Central Southern England / Wiltshire region

Wiltshire is a county just far enough away from the hustle and bustle to make you feel miles from it, surrounded by rolling countryside and sleepy distant communities.

The county is home to some of the most beautiful villages in England. It is also a mysterious place of prehistoric stone sites, strange crop circles and magnificent chalk horses.

For the active there are endless options, from walking ancient ridgeways and river meadows to biking the canal towpaths. The less energetic can choose to cruise the Kennet and Avon Canal and stop off along route to visit towns and country inns stepped in history.

Westbury / Heywood area

The cottages are central located for visiting many local towns and villages and famous sites.

Here's a taster of what's within reach:
- Just half an hour from Bath and its recently reopened Spa Baths
- Longleat Safari Park & Elizabethan Mansion
- Stonehenge
- Avebury medieval town with stone circles
- Westbury White Horse and Hill Fort carved in chalk
- Cheddar Gorge and caves

Nearby towns and villages:
- Bradford-upon-Avon
- Castle Coombe
- Salisbury
- Stourhead

There's also plenty of opportunity for walks and cycling through the stretches of beautiful countryside.

How to get there

Follow the directions below and then look for the large converted church on the side of the road. Turn there in to Church Road. Ashe Cottage is number 14, about 500 metres (yards) on the left hand side just past the phone box.

From London or Heathrow Airport....Take the M4 motorway West to Junction 17. Follow A350 past Chippenham and Melksham towards Westbury. At Yarnbrook roundabout (look for "The Hungry Horse" pub) turn Left. Turn right after about a mile, beside the large church, into Church Road.
.
From South London or Gatwick Airport...Take the M25 Motorway clockwise (signposted Watford), Take the M3 Motorway West to Junction 8. Follow A303 towards Exeter. 10 miles past Stonehenge turn Right to Warminster on the A36. Take the A350 through Westbury towards Trowbridge. The Church is a bout a mile out of Westbury on the left, this is Church Road !

From Bath......Take the A36 towards Warminster and Salisbury. After approximately 10 miles turn left on to A361 at Beckington roundabout towards Trowbridge. After approximately 2 miles turn right at Southwick mini roundabout (beside Church). After about 2 miles turn right at mini roundabout beside "Rising Sun" pub. Next 2 roundabouts go straight over. Look for the Church on the right, this is Church Road.

From The West Country or South .....Head for Warminster whichever route suits best. Take the A350 out of Warminster through Westbury towards Trowbridge. About a mile out of Westbury there is a large converted Church on the left, this is Church Road !

From the Midlands or further North...Take the M5 south then M4 east towards London. Take J18 for Bath, do not go into Bath but follow the bypass towards Chippenham on A4. At mini roundabout turn right under railway bridge. Continue to Bradford-on-Avon town centre, over river, left at fork, 3 miles to Trowbridge. Follow Westbury signs.
