The Central Southern England region
Wiltshire is a county just far enough away from the hustle and bustle to make you feel miles from it, surrounded by rolling countryside and sleepy distant communities.
The county is home to some of the most beautiful villages in England. It is also a mysterious place of prehistoric stone sites, strange crop circles and magnificent chalk horses.
For the active there are endless options, from walking ancient ridgeways and river meadows to biking the canal towpaths. The less energetic can choose to cruise the Kennet and Avon Canal and stop off along route to visit towns and country inns stepped in history.
The cottages are central located for visiting many local towns and villages and famous sites.
Here's a taster of what's within reach:
- Just half an hour from Bath and its recently reopened Spa Baths
- Longleat Safari Park & Elizabethan Mansion
- Avebury medieval town with stone circles
- Westbury White Horse and Hill Fort carved in chalk
- Cheddar Gorge and caves
Nearby towns and villages:
- Castle Coombe
There's also plenty of opportunity for walks and cycling through the stretches of beautiful countryside.

"House with character, but pool was disappointing."
The house was cute and had character but was smaller than we had originally thought it would be. The fact that the house had a pool was the main area of interest for us, and but we found the pool and … More
Thank you for taking the time to write a review on Trip Advisor for us.
I must clarify the issues raised about the pool for future guests.
We do not advertise a supervised Pool. Our website states No lifeguard on duty, and our T&C's state...
"You are responsible for your own safety whilst using the pool, as it is unattended. All reasonable care must be taken by you, and all pool rules displayed on the gate and in the information pack must be obeyed"
The swimming pool is heated and has been at 27°C (80°F), throughout June.
Prudent use of the Solar Pool cover does help maintain the temperature,if it was left off overnight, it will have lost 4-6 degrees! The heat pump is on daily from 9am-6pm.
The Pool area, like the rest of the cottage, is checked and cleaned thoroughly before guests arrive. If anything was missed, I can only apologize, and will look into how it was missed, as we work very hard to maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout all our properties, and grounds.
This is the first negative comment we've had, so please take the time to read all the other good reviews too...

"Great place to stay for hen do!"
Spent a great weekend at Ashe cottage in March for my best friends hen party. Had great weather and the outdoor grounds were lovely. Nice warm conservatory for relaxing in. Great kitchen facilities which was well equipped. Large rooms with mainly single beds.
Annex was also well presented a and well equipped.
During our stay, contacted the owners with regards to a leaky toilet and needing an extra bed made up. Were quick to respond and happy to help.
Oh yeah and can't forget the sauna! Nice extra touch.
Really great place to stay with hospitable owners. Would definitely stay again!

We couldn't have asked for more from Ashe Cottage for a friend's hen do in February. We had a wonderful time despite it being an extremely wet weekend - testament to how cosy the cottage is and how welcome we were made to feel on arrival. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and well-arranged over the cottage and annexe. The kitchen was well-equipped and the dining/living areas provided more than enough space to comfortably fit 15 ladies. A particular highlight was the amazing fireplace and log fire which made us feel very at home! The booking process was professional and straight-forward and Jo was extremely helpful in the run-up to the weekend, helping us source beauticians for the cottage and even booking a minibus to take us to and from Bath on the Saturday night. Highly recommended for a civilised hen-do or family/friends trip away. Would love to return!

"Just perfect for a relaxing weekend!"
This lovely house has bucket loads of charm and fantastic facilities. The pool and sauna house are great for whiling away an afternoon, and the group dining allows for a really special evening if you're a large group. It's clean, comfortable and spacious, and the owners were very welcoming. Highly recommend!

"First class accommodation, the complete package."
Very good accommodation, with lots of extras eg sauna, swimming pool,BBQ and large garden. House and annexe well equipped to suit all occasions and all ages, only drawback is that the main cottage does not have downstairs toilet. Location quiet even though railway close by, but not an issue.

"Great place with lots to do nearby"
Very friendly owners who made booking very easy. The house and annex worked well for our group as older and younger family members were free to do different things. The main house would benefit from a downstairs loo but otherwise the property is well furnished and kept clean.
The pool and sauna were enjoyed by all.
The location is great. It was easy to collect people arriving by train (Westbury station is about 5 minutes drive away and has frequent trains to from London, Bath, Bristol, Portsmouth and elsewhere). It is easy to get into Bath or to visit several National Trust and English Heritage properties in the vicinity. Lots of places for walks and a riding stables is available in Westbury. The keen cyclists in the party aso found the roads sufficiently challenging for their 2 - 3 hour road-trips.

"Great family reunion venue"
Couldn't ask for a better venue to get the extended family of 15 together. Can't comment too much on the surrounding area as we couldn't get the kids out of the pool...
