Wiltshire is a county just far enough away from the hustle and bustle to make you feel miles from it, surrounded by rolling countryside and sleepy distant communities.
The county is home to some of the most beautiful villages in England. It is also a mysterious place of prehistoric stone sites, strange crop circles and magnificent chalk horses.
For the active there are endless options, from walking ancient ridgeways and river meadows to biking the canal towpaths. The less energetic can choose to cruise the Kennet and Avon Canal and stop off along route to visit towns and country inns stepped in history.

Ashe Cottage really provided our 14 strong hen party with the perfect accommodation, location and facilities for our weekend. The service from Heywood Holidays was brilliant, very clear instructions, the cottage and annex in perfect condition, help with organising transport to and from Bath and a great rate for our stay. Upon arrival we found the cottage to be spotless, all of the beds made, the heating on (which in Feb made a huge difference) and the fridge holding a lovely welcome gift. Location wise we couldn't have asked for better, a slightly hairy stroll in the dark to the local pub but had our female sense of direction not have taken over, the instructions left by Heywood would have got us there with no problems. 30 minutes from Bath. Neighbors who were happy to help carry things from our cars for us. And another hen party the other side to make things even more interesting. The cottage is fully equipped in kitchen, bathrooms and annex so we couldn't have asked for more. After breakfasts and dinner for 14 the dishwasher was a very welcome addition and the two large fridges were perfect. Check out was easy with no problems, as long as the cottage is left clean and tidy which we felt was perfectly reasonable given the state we found it and all cleaning equipment is provided (Bar washing up liquid and tablets for the dishwasher). Our only tiny issue was that given the property is very quaint and quite large we found that the heating wasn't sufficient to keep us warm all night, despite leaving it on constant. It was however an exceptionally cold weekend, the annex had no problem and after we figured out how to light the gorgeous log fire in the dinning room on the Saturday night (logs provided at a small cost) we were perfectly toasty for the rest of our stay. Jo was available over the course of the weekend to ensure we had no problems and we did utilise her when we couldn't figure out how to use the oven! We were even given a little call on Saturday afternoon to check we had arrived safely and that we were happy with everything. Couldn't have asked for more, would thoroughly recommend and happily stay again. |

We all really enjoyed our weekend at Ashe Cottage. The set up was perfect for our group of 13 adults and 3 children. The annexe meant our baby could get some peace and quiet. The main cottage was the hub for entertainment and big meals. We stayed during the winter so couldn't take advantage of the pool but we enjoyed the sauna! Location was ideal for us - really handy for train pick ups at Westbury. A highlight of our stay was the short walk to the local pub through a farm full of pigs, geese and goats - perfect for the kiddies. Booking was super easy and the cottage's owner was very welcoming and friendly. Would love to return in the Summer. |

The cottage was perfect for a long weekend with friends celebrating a 30th birthday. Local area is great for walks with friendly local pubs. The Longs Arms in Steeple Ashton is definitively worth the short drive for Sunday lunch. The booking experience was friendly and easy! Will definitely visit again sometime. |
