The East Anglia region

West Runton is an ideal base from which to explore the beautiful north Norfolk coast, woodlands, market towns and villages. This pretty village is situated between the coast on one side and acres of National Trust woodland on the other – there are marked paths to allow you to walk to both Sheringham and Cromer. The railway station in the centre of the village runs a service to Norwich (calling at Wroxham on the Norfolk Broads), Sheringham and Cromer.

West Runton

West Runton has many amenities including a very good local (The Village Inn) which is dog friendly. There is also a small supermarket, post office, newsagent and camp shop. The beach at West Runton is a mix of sand and pebble, with superb rock pooling when the tide is out. The railway station in the centre of the village runs a service to Norwich (calling at Wroxham on the Norfolk Broads), Sheringham and Cromer. In Aylmerton, in easy walking distance is the Roman Camp noted for its pretty gardens and good food.

There are expansive sandy beaches with award winning blue flag ones at Cromer and Sheringham. At Holkham and Wells - next - the sea, pine woods edge the sand dunes, historic harbour villages such as Blakeney, Cley -next-the sea, Salthouse, Morston and Brancaster Staithe. To the East there are the villages of Overstrand, Mundesley with further gorgeous beaches.

The seal population at Blakeney Point can be visited by boat from Morston and Blakeney.

A trip on the North Norfolk Railway is a must – not only does it pass through some of Norfolk’s most beautiful countryside but it allows you to explore two of Norfolk’s most popular towns – Sheringham and Holt.

Just through Weybourne is the Muckleborough Collection, which is the UK's largest privately owned working military museum.

About a mile away is the National Trust's Felbrigg Hall with its lovely house, orangery and lakeside walk. Within a twenty minute drive is one of the Trust's flagship properties, Blickling Hall and Sandringham is nearby.

If you're looking for theatres, try the Pavillion Theatre at the end of Cromer pier, famous for it's annual End of the pier summer show. The Little Theatre at Sheringham or the Auden Theatre in Holt or the Theatre Royal in Norwich.

A short drive lies the Norfolk Broads, Britain's finest inland waterway. An extensive network of rivers and shallow broads with small villages can be visited by car but it's best discovered by boat. Day boats can be hired from one of the many boatyards.

"Wonderful night sky from Half Moon cottage"

This snug and compact holiday cottage is ideal for a short stay for two. The interior is tastefully furnished and outside there is a south west facing patio with garden furniture and lovely views of the night sky. It is an exceptional location, being quiet and having a feeling of being out in the woods (there are way marked walks nearby) while it is only a short distance from the A148 to Sheringham and Cromer, and coast road from West Runton. Perfect for walking, touring and enjoying a quiet evening in.

"Didn't want to leave! Idyllic!"

Half Moon Cottage comes highly recommended by us and we really do hope to visit again in the future. A home from home! The cottage was such a cosy, welcoming return after a long day of walking in fading light! Very thoughtful ‘welcome pack’ of cake and biscuit goodies waiting for us on arrival which kept us going throughout the week with a lot of really useful information included within the property on surrounding areas, alongside tips on restaurants/pubs/takeaway options which we tried and tested during our stay! Beautifully decorated and wonderfully equipped with everything you could need for your stay. We couldn’t have asked for a more ideal property to spend a few Autumnal nights in and it really did tick all our boxes. Thank you for a truly lovely break - just perfect.

Thank you for taking the time to review Half Moon Cottage and great to hear that you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again. Best wishes Mark

"Beautiful wee cottage"

This is the second time we have stayed at Half Moon Cottage - we just love the Norfolk Coast and its the perfect little place to stay to be central to so many lovely places to visit. The cottage is well appointed and secluded and has everything you need for a perfect break away. Its central location allows you to go North or South along the coast, but also has so many places within walking distance or a very short car journey. We would definitely choose this place again if coming this way again. Many thanks.

"Traditional thatched cottage in a lovely country setting"

This thatched studio cottage is ideal for two and pets are welcome. There is a wood at the top of the lane which is ideal for walking your dog The cottage, and two others, are set in the grounds of the main house, each one being private and with it's own designated car space within a walled area. A welcome pack included a delicious home made "lemon drizzle" cake. The cottage is fitted to a high standard and has everything needed for an enjoyable holiday. There is a lovely pub at the bottom of the lane but take a torch for the evenings if you are walking. This group of cottages is ideal for people or family who want to be together yet be in their own cottage for some of the time - ideal for grand parents!

"Brilliant for walks, dog friendly, just a Home from Home"

Owners were very helpful, couldn't do enough to make our stay as best a possible. Close to attractions if you needed them otherwise very nice, quiet and tranquil, lots of places to go nearby for days out, great place to stay, we loved it so much so we booked for next yr while we was there. "Lovely Little Cottage"

Stayed for 4 nights in late May. Lovely cute, tidy cottage. Quite small but great for what we needed. Great location - out of the way but handy for getting to Cromer and Sheringham. Quiet and peaceful. The only downside for us was that we do not have dogs but we could tell that dogs had been in the cottage - bit of a smell lingering - A plug in air freshener would have been handy - also dog hair on the settee. I understand that people want to take their dogs away with them but i think maybe one cottage could be kept for that. Other than that it was very enjoyable.

"Brilliant cottage, great setting, clean comfortable, great welcome pack"

Bijou but beautiful, well equipped and thought out. Garden setting lovely, close to woodland walking. Short journey to West 'Runton. Great place for a couple to have some peace and quiet. Weather not brilliant for us but found plenty to occupy us.

Glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again with better whether.

"Perfect little cottage, in a wonderful setting"

We really enjoyed our long break in Half Moon Cottage. It's in such a wonderful place. There's lots of places to walk nearby, and also easy access to pubs & not far from the sea. It's in a very quiet location, which made it the perfect holiday for us. We would definitely think about staying here again.
