The South East England / Greater London region

Brentford place takes its name from the small river Brent which rises in the parish of Hendon, and here falls into the Thames. It is a market town and situated on the great Western road, a distance of seven miles from Hyde Park Corner. The parish is bounded by Ealing, Isleworth, and Hanwell, and by the River Thames.

Brentford is conveniently located close to the centre of London. The attractions include the Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus, Covent Garden, Buckingham Palace, the Royal Parks, the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum, Madame Tussauds, the London Eye and shopping in Knightsbridge, Kensington, Oxford Street and Regents Street. Nightlife in London is fantastic, with an array of world famous restaurants, pubs and bars.

West London / Brentford area

Closeby are the following tourist attractions: Kew Botanical Gardens, Public Records Office, Watermans Cinema/Theatre complex, Just a short walk away is the well known Brentford Football Club which was founded in 1889. The 'Bees' played their first game in November 1889 and their first win was against The West London Alliance in 1893. The football club is located at Griffin Park in Windmill Lane, about a 10 minute walk from the apartment.

Also well worth a visit is the Kew Bridge Steam Museum located in Green Dragon Lane, Brentford - just a short bus ride away. All the steam engines are powered by real steam and can be seen in action every weekend. The 1846 Grand Junction 90 inch engine, described by Charles Dickens as ‘a monster’, is the world’s largest working beam engine. The museum is housed in a magnificent 19th-century waterworks. The outstanding collection of water pumping engines also includes working diesel and water powered machines. The Water For Life Gallery explores the fascinating story of London’s water over 2000 years.

Guests staying at the Brentford Dock Apartment have free access to Syon House and Park situated just next to the riverside development. Described by Sir John Betjeman as 'the Grand Architectural Walk', Syon House and its 200 acre park is the London home of the Duke of Northumberland, whose family have lived here for over 400 years. Originally the site of a medieval abbey, Syon was named after Mount Zion in the Holy Land. The abbey was dedicated to the Bridgettine Order, established in the 14th century by the great Swedish mystic St Bridget. One of the last great abbeys to be built (founded by King Henry V in 1415), Syon was dissolved by King Henry VIII in 1539. Attractions at Syon include the Aquatic Experience, The London Butterfly House, Snakes and Ladders indoor adventure playground, Buttercups Day Nursery, Syon Park Trout Fishery, Wyevale Garden Centre, Syon Park and the Edinburgh Woollen Mill.
