Cottage | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
Cranford Cottage was built approximately six years ago by a local builder to a very high standard. It sits on the end of a row of four cottages in the village of West Ayton on the edge of Forge Valley. It has been furnished to a very high standard and is a comfortable and relaxing base for a holiday. The cottage has a kitchen that you can eat in with all modern equipment which looks onto a little private court yard where you can also eat alfresco. The two bedrooms have hand made beds one with a king size bed and then two single beds in the second room. It has a family bathroom with a shower over the bath and the sitting room is very comfortable with TV and Wi-fi. From here you can visit so many places the historic city of York, Whitby with its traditional fishing fleet, the magnificent Castle Howard, and the wonderful North York Steam Railway which you can take to Goathland probably best know as Aidensfield in the TV series Heartbeat., or travel to the end of the line to Whitby. Or you can just take a short drive into Scarborough and have a paddle in the sea!

The South Bay has a sandy beach with donkey rides delicious ice cream a fun fair and amusements while the North Bay is a quieter area with lovely walks down to the beach through the Italian and Rose Gardens. You can visit Scarborough Castle high up on the cliffs with its wonderful views over the harbour and out to sea., or spend some time at the Rotunda Museum or Scarborough Art Gallery. Scarborough has a Sea Life and Marine Sanctuary where you can see seals and penguins and watch them being fed. What a great find! Such a gorgeous and immaculate cottage! Everything you could possibly need (and more) was available in the cottage, such a nice touch to find milk & biscuits for us after our long journey. Marjorie & Graham were fantastic too, and took time to show us round the cottage and made us feel very welcome. The beds were so comfy, and I think everyone commented on having the best nights sleep in a long time! West Ayton is a lovely place too, with lots of choice in places to eat?

"lovely cottage - would love to stay again"
Lovely friendly welcome, complete with great biscuits! Spotlessly clean cottage with just about everything you could ever need, and then some more. Handy for a local shop and pub, as well as easy to get into Scarborough and Filey. Might be best for couples or older children as there are lots of lovely but breakable items. Comfy beds, great shower and fluffy towels - what more could you need?

"Wonderful place to stay and we would definitely stay again"
My family (2 young children - both under 4, my wife and I) stayed here for 3 weeks and it was a great place to stay. When we first got there and saw the place, I was actually a little nervous because everything was *very* nice. I was afraid my kids would break something but after a little bit of rearranging, we had a great open area for them to run around and play in. There is a storage nook under the stairs and we were able to put several breakable things (vases, lamps, little side table...) under there and then I wasn't worried about them since the kids couldn't get to that area.
The kitchen was great and we did a lot of cooking there since eating out is kind of hard with my energetic kids. The dining area was a little small but it worked fine.
The owners are very nice as well. Our stay was reimbursed to me by my work but when I originally submitted the receipt I got through holidaylettings.co.uk, my work wouldn't accept it as valid. This was a huge problem for me. I contacted Marjorie (owner) and she was *very* helpful and worked with me to provide a receipt with exactly the information that my work needed to validate and reimburse the stay. That was above and beyond what Marjorie needed to do but she was very kind and willing to help me out.
One other note, when we arrived, the owners met us there and showed us around. They showed us how to work everything in the kitchen and the heat and everything else.
Overall it was a great place to stay and we would definitely stay there again.

"fantastic, immaculate cottage"
All the family enjoyed staying at Cranford Cottage. It was comfortable and immaculately presented. We were met at the cottage by the very welcoming owners with the keys, milk and biscuits. There was a cot and highchair provided. Situated in a lovely village about 12 minutes drive from Scarborough town.
