House | 5 bedrooms | sleeps 8
*****AVAILABLE FOR RYDER CUP 2014*****
Northcliff Manor, a lovely 5 bedroom home which sleeps 10 comfortably, with stunning views over the upper Firth of Clyde, is accessed just off the main coastal route over a private road which serves some of the village's remaining Victorian villas. Set in attractive grounds, with private parking, its spacious rooms offer luxurious accommodation in a beautiful, tranquil location. It's ideal for two families sharing, for family gatherings, or for groups of friends meeting to celebrate special occasions.
This property is one of several large Victorian houses built on the river by wealthy Glasgow merchants when the railway station opened in Wemyss Bay, enabling city based families to enjoy the wonderful river views and healthy sea air at weekends and during the long summers. ONLY 45 MINUTES DIRECTLY TO GLASGOW CITY CENTRE ON THE TRAIN AND ONLY 30 MILES BY CAR TO GLASGOW
Wemyss Bay is an attractive coastal village about 7 miles from Greenock and Largs and approximately 30 miles from Glasgow. From its pretty Victorian station, considered one of Scotland's finest architecturally, trains to Glasgow take just 45 minutes.
Also 45 minutes away, by ferry, is the Isle of Bute. If you'd like to explore a larger island, the Arran ferry leaves from Ardrossan; or a smaller, the little Cumbrae ferry makes the short crossing from Largs frequently. Dunoon on the Cowal Peninsula is just under an hour from Gourock. Staying on the water, the marinas at Largs, Inverkip and Troon offer charters or sail training and all have good restaurants.
Back on dry land there are many beautiful walks in and close to Wemyss Bay, among them the Greenock Cut, rated as one of the top 50 walks in Scotland. From Greenock it's a fairly level 7 miles, with some spectacular panoramic views over the Firth of Clyde or you could start off at Wemyss Bay and walk from there, adding an extra 3 miles, have coffee at the visitor centre along the way, finish at Drumfrochar Station and catch a train back.

"An ideal holiday to see in 2014"
Spent 5 days at Northcliff Manor over the festive period and our party of 8 had a fantastic time.
The house is very grand with 4 spacious double bedrooms. This stay was one of the few times I've been away and we didn't have to draw names for the best rooms as they were all equally good. The kitchen was big enough to allow us all the chance to pitch in our culinary skills at dinner and the dining table in the living room meant we could sit together at meal times.
The house was spotless and there was the nice touch with the Christmas decorations which added to the homely feel.
The picturesque views from the front of the house are marvellous, both during the day and night
A special mention to Nick and Linda who were very accommodating and we were grateful to Nick for taking the time to drop us off at the Chartroom so we could be at our Hogmanay dinner dance on time.
Overall we had a brilliant time and all agreed it was an ideal place to spend our holiday. Tentative discussions have even taken place about a return visit later on this year!
