The Powys/Brecon Beacons region
Mid Wales has something for everyone with its stunning mountains, rolling countryside, coastline and of course - its luxury holiday cottages. Mid Wales and Brecon Beacons holiday cottages offer a great central base to relax or to explore an amazing range of unique attractions, market towns and castles; outdoor, indoor and even underground adventures.
From Brecon Beacons National Park in the south to the Snowdonia National Park border in the north, and from the west coast to Offa's Dyke on the Welsh/English border, Mid Wales is the largest and probably most diverse region in Wales. The holiday cottages Mid Wales has to offer are as diverse as the region itself but they have one thing in common - a 4* or 5* grading that guarantees a luxury holiday.
Cycle the forest trails, ride the rapids at a watersports centre, wander along gentle countryside walks, around lakes & reservoirs or conquer the peaks of Cadair Idris & Pen y Fan. At our Mid Wales and Brecon Beacons holiday cottages you also have the chance to try something completely different, from archery to quad biking, to underground adventures at King Arthur's Labrinth or Dan-yr-Ogof National Showcaves.
This large farmhouse is set in a gorgeous countryside location, 2 miles above the little town of Llanfair Caereinion which has all the necessary amenities including shops, pubs, banks and even a steam train. The busy market town of Welshpool is also within 7 miles, offering many attractions including castles and a canal to take you back to a bygone era.
Take the short drive to the stunning lake Vyrnwy, where you can try your hand at watersports and cycling or enjoy a leisurely walk and good lunch. Golf and fishing are popular in this part of Wales, too, with plenty of golf courses and a coarse fishing lake.
If you're after castles and culture, Mid Wales has both in spades. Nearby Dolforwyn Castle, for example, was the last castle to be built by Llewelwyn, the Last Prince of Wales. Powis Castle, which started life as a medieval fortress, is a must, especially for its beautiful gardens and collection of paintings, sculpture, furniture and tapestries.
Portmeirion and the Mountains of Snowdonia offer great days out whilst pony trekking and quad trekking are available locally. Other popular attractions include Llanrhaeadr Waterfall (the tallest in the UK), the Centre for Alternative Technology and King Arthur's Labyrinth.
Glyndwr's Way is a long distance footpath in Mid Wales that was granted National Trail status in the year 2000. Join the path in Welshpool 7 miles / Meifod 8 miles.
Severn Way – Gentle 12 mile route along the Montgomery Canal towpath from Welshpool (7 miles) to Newtown.
Offa's Dyke Path – National Trail, 177 miles in total, following the Welsh/English border. Nearest section starts at Buttington Bridge, 11 miles away.
River Banwy – Llanfair Caereinion. ½ a mile of fishing down stream from town bridge. 2 miles
Bluebell Park – Llanerfyl. 1 acre lake with platform fishing. 6 miles
Lake Vyrnwy – Wild brown, stocked brown and rainbow trout. 17 miles
Welshpool Golf Club – 18 hole golf course. 4 miles
Bike hire is available on site and can be arranged with owners after arrival.
Llanfair Caereinion to Castle Caereinion. 10 mile cycle route following the steam railway towards Welshpool so you could even return on the train. Quite a hilly route - excellent views. Join the route 1 mile away.
Lake Vyrnwy – 12 mile circuit around the scenic Lake Vyrnwy. Suitable for the whole family. 17 miles
Lletty Mawr Trekking Centre – Llangadfan. 10 miles
Lake Vyrnwy – Canoeing, kayaking, sailing and windsurfing - suitable for the whole family. 17 miles.
