The City of Wells is dominated by it's magnificent cathedral. Wells is the smallest city in England with a population of just 10,000.
The cathedral dates back to 1180, the Chapter House, Vicar's Hall, the Cloisters and Vicar's Close date back form the 13th to the 15th centuries. The cathedral hosts many classical concerts throughout the year.

Another of the major attractions in Wells is the historical Bishop's Palace dating from the 13th century. The Palace is surrounded by a moat and is set among beautiful gardens. Wells is a thriving market town and there is a market held here every Wednesday and Saturday close to the entrance of the Bishop's Palace in the centre of the town.
Wells is set at the foot of the Mendip Hills. Stunning views across the levels can be enjoyed from the Ebbor Gorge Nature reserve in the Mendips. Another of the nearby attactions is Wookey Hole Caves. Here you can enjoy a guided tour through the fascinating limestone caves. Children will enjoy hearing about the legend of the "Witch of Wookey", and exploring the dinosaur themepark, and learning about the area's natural history. There is also an indoor playzone and old fashioned amusement arcade.
Another of Wells attractions is its proximity to the Bath and West Showground. This is the venue for a whole host of events ranging from agricultural shows and events, motorcycle, and rural craft shows, to horse trials and collectors fayres.
Wells has a good range of pubs and restaurants to choose from. There is also a Leisure Centre with swimming Pool. It is also home to the Little Theatre which is the headquarters and performance venue of the Wells Operatic Society. It also stages plays and pantomimes throughout the year.

My husband and I stayed at the cottage at the beginning of March. The support Chris and Viv provided from before we arrive until we left was excellent. The cottage is beautiful (with an enclosed outside patio which we enjoyed), impeccable, well equipped and in a beautiful, peaceful spot. All the info you need to know about Wells and the surrounding areas is provided thru brochures and hand-written notes, which you will find at the cottage. We managed to walk around the town of Wells and Bath (both beautiful). We had a great time! We will recommend it without hesitation and hopefully will be able to come back soon...there's a lot more we want to see and many things to do.
We had a great time! Thank you!

The cottage is fully equipped and furnished to a very high standard and located in a very peaceful area. The cottage is part of a converted hospital and we found the building itself very interesting, it would have been good to know a bit more about its history. A welcome pack was a very pleasant addition along with books, DVDs and games etc which we thought we would have use for given the recent extreme weather conditions, but the only evidence we saw of the flooding was when we climbed Glatonbury Tor when we could then see pockets of flooded areas. We did lots of nice walks including Ebhor Gorge, Cheddar Gorge (without paying the inflated entrance price!) and also made time to see and enjoy Wells, also within walking distance of the cottage. We would definitely recommend the cottage and the area and all in all we had a wonderful relaxing holiday. Thank you Chris and Viv.

I stayed in this cottage to get ready before my wedding. The cottage was the well equipped and decorated to a high standard. Welcome pack was greatly received and included gluten free for my bridesmaid. The owners chris and viv are brilliant by giving me information on the surrounding area and they made me feel very welcome. So for can only say thank you for a wonderful stay and helping my day go smoothly. They definitely went out of their way.

"Un nouveau séjour très agréable"
C'est notre quatrième séjour au 4 Lower Chapel Court et ce fut très agréable, comme les trois fois précédentes. Chris et Viv cherchent en permanence à améliorer le séjour de leurs invités ce qui est très appréciable. Charmant cottage vivement recommandé !

A few days ago we came back from this cottage. It was not only our first Christmas away from home but also first ever cottage holiday. It was amazing. From the moment I first contacted Chris to ask for the quote I didn't have any doubt we would enjoy this stay. Chris and Viv-owners, made sure that we had all the information we need for our travel and the stay. The cottage was so clean and well equipped. We were shocked. The folders with the info on the cottage had more than enough information needed. And the welcome back was great! You don't get this type of service these days.
Not only the cottage was beautiful but also the surrounding area. There's a forest 5 mins away from the cottage. we only managed to see Wells which is beautiful too but I know that the other places around are worth visiting too. We checked this out on the leaflets that were at the cottage as well!
We are definitely going to come back to the cottage again soon.
Also the deposit was return the same day we left the cottage!
STRESS FREE HOLIDAY!

"Very relaxing & tranquil surroundings."
We found this place by chance on the tripadvisor site and what a wonderful find. Extremely clean, very well equipt little cottage including dishwasher & breadmaker. We found it to be very quiet, tranquil, friendly & comfortable. Set in the old Mendip Hospital. This property is situated in an excellent position to visit attractions around Somerset, Dorset & Wiltshire. Best weeks sleep we have had in years :-)
Dear Kira. Many thanks for posting a review. Your comments in our guest book were very much appreciated and especially the way you left the cottage. Our thanks. Chris and Viv Kelly

"Wonderful, clean, cottage with a lovely outside space, in a fantastic location"
Prior to our trip we received well researched, valuable information from the owners to ensure both journey and holiday was perfect. The cottage was lovely and clean with good sized rooms, including everything you could wish for from a home from home. Parking is provided along with a secure outside paved garden within which we enjoyed many meals. The location is fantastic with Wells being within walking distance either along the road or lovely footpaths via the 'east Mendip way' which my children aged 5 and 10 thoroughly enjoyed. The cottage is located perfectly for Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury Tor and Street which has a discount shopping village and Lido with several levels to the pool, ideal for children of all ages. We loved the cottage and had a most relaxing holiday with good walks and a welcoming pub within a short walk, which served a good choice of home cooked food. Wells itself has a beautiful cathedral and plenty to see and do. The cottage is wonderful and I would defiantly recommend to both families and couples alike.
