Tolly House
About the home
Tolly House was built in 2007 by the Earl of Leicester whose family have lived at nearby Holkham Hall since the 1750s.
Just 5 minutes walk to shops, the Quay and 2 fantastic gastro pubs (The Crown and The Globe). Tolly House makes a wonderful base for visiting the North Norfolk Coastline.
One of the most beautiful beaches in the UK can be reached by walking along the footpath by the Quay or by taking the mini train that runs beside the beach road.

BookThe East Anglia / Norfolk region
The Burnhams – 5 miles from Wells-Next-the-Sea The Burnhams is the name given to the villages grouped around the River Burn on the North Norfolk Coast. There is Burnham Market, the main village and is known as "Chelsea-on-sea" as it is full of trendy shops, similar to the ones down the Kings Road!
Burnham Overy Staithe is on the coast and provides moorings and launching for boats. Burnham Thorpe is where Nelson grew up, with his father Rector of the local church. Burnham Overy Town, Burnham Deepdale and Burnham Norton are all small residential villages
Walsingham Catholic and Anglican Shrines – 5 miles from Wells A place of pilgrimage since medieval times, a lovely village well worth a visit
Hunstanton – 19 miles away The largest sea side town on the North Norfolk coast and home to Sea Life Santuary, cinema, theatre, and leisure center as well as a beautiful sandy beach!
Sandringham – The Norfolk retreat of HM The Queen Sandringham is the much-loved country retreat of Her Majesty the Queen, and has been the private home of four generations of British monarchs.
The Wells-next-the-Sea area
Wells-next-the-Sea is one of the most attractive towns on the North Norfolk Coast. From the long sweeping beach bordered by pine woodland, along the gentle harbour with small fishing boats and children fishing for crabs, past the shops on Staithe Street with not a chain store in sight, to the tree-lined park with its fine Georgian houses, quiet pubs and restaurants - Wells is an unspoiled seaside destination, waiting to be discovered.
Just off the Quay you can catch the miniature steam train that takes you the mile or so down to the beach. The beautiful sandy beach, with its pine trees, sand dunes and colourful beach huts, stretches for miles towards Holkham and was famously featured in the film Shakespeare in Love. The wide, flat beach is ideal for collecting a wide variety of shells. You can also spot oyster catchers and ringed plovers, who nest on the beach, along with some common and little terns.
The area around Wells provides opportunities for sightseeing, water sports, bird watching, country walks and plenty of family fun. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has lots to offer.

Our fourth visit is in less than six weeks time and still we look forward to it with much anticipation. We are a stalward group of three couples (last time we were four) and the house gracefully handles our love of eating, drinking, playing games and retiring in comfort. Of course, we love the North Norfolk coast and have done for many years since our children were of sand-castle size. Alas, they are now university size, yet we adults feel it our duty to continue the adventures and explorations of these parts. We often manage to make it beyond The Crown and The Globe! We are truly dedicated. Personally, I can't visit without a boat trip to see the seals. Friendship knows no bounds as, without a wimper, we board the boat for another bobbing sail to see the seals. I am told, with a smug smile, that they now even wave at my familiar face. Tolly House is both well placed for walking into Wells (take the short cut, easy peasy) and for driving further afield in the pursuit of culture (which offsets the lack of it in the evenings). It is a welcoming house with enough room not to feel penned in and with wonderfully welcoming wood burner! If they allowed dogs, I would book this for a summer holiday but totally understand the reasons why they don't. We look forward to our fifth visit, after successfully completing our fourth one - and going to wave at the seals. No matter what the weather - it is so worth it from all aspects. Response: Thank you for your wonderful review, we are so pleased you enjoy Tolly House and the beautiful North Norfolk Coast. |

Clean, comfortable house with large rooms over three floors. Enclosed garden with plenty of off road car parking. Wells town has a lovely range of shops & restaurants supplying local produce. The walks were fabulous whether beach, forest or stately homes. Absolutely loved Holkham Hall and the deer park. If you fancy a trip out Blickling Hall is a stunning National Trust property but the best trip of all was the seal trip out to Blakeney Point. We stayed for a week but couldn't fit everything in so will be back again in the summer. Response: So pleased you had a good stay at Tolly House and look forward to having you back again this year! |

We were a family spanning three generations and including toddlers and a baby. The house couldn't have been lovelier. For a start everything worked. Everything was of excellent quality. The location was splendid. The place was clean and uncluttered and it had a lovely relaxed atmosphere. There was an enclosed garden - and fascilities to suit every one of us. The house was so comfortable and peaceful. The owners left us excellent information and a welcome pack and we plan to return. We have self catered a lot and this property was first class in every way. Response: Many thanks for taking the time to review Tolly House. So pleased you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to having you back again! |
