The South East Ireland / County Wexford region
From the sun-warmed beaches and pretty coastal villages of Courtown, Curracloe and Duncannon to the tranquil beauty of the John F Kennedy Arboretum, Wexford flows along on a chilled-out vibe.
There’s nothing too hurried, nothing too hectic in this laid-back corner of Ireland’s sunny south east, but instead the county is blessed with lots of cosy picturesque villages, a wide range of birdlife, fascinating castles, abbeys and country houses and, of course, the oldest operational lighthouse in the world at Hook Head.
The Wellingtonbridge / Clonmines area
On the west shore of Bannow Bay in Co. Wexford, is Tintern Abbey, once one of the most powerful Cistercian foundations in the South East. Other places of interest include the Dunbrody Historic Emigrant Ship at New Ross and Duncannon Fort.
With luscious valleys and hills, Wexford is ideal for walking and cycling. The Wexford Coastal Path is particularly stunning area to take in. You can enjoy a burst of fresh sea air with a beautiful coastal golf course like St Helen’s Bay or else head more inland with elegant, undulating courses like Faithlegg.
The John F Kennedy Aboretum is dedicated to the memory of the US president, this lovely parkland, forest and garden is beautifully designed with over 4,500 trees from all over the world.
Kilmokea Gardens covers an area of seven acres, these lovely gardens encompass formal walled gardens and are rich with design features including an Italian loggia and “old-English” style herbaceous border.
Learn windsurfing, kayaking and sailing at the Rosslare Watersports Centre, explore haunting shipwrecks off the coast with the Pierhouse Dive School, or try some leisurely cruising at the beautiful Kilmore Quay Marina.

Lovely secluded rural location adjacent to the owners farm, surrouded by fields and lovely views across Bannow Bay. You can hear the warbling of the birds on the water in the evening and in the morning which was very relaxing. We found the owners very helpful and on hand when we needed assistance. The only slight issue we had was finding it - its not actually that difficult - just that we didnt check until the last minute and found out there were no real directions on the description. That said, you can always ask the locals - they were more than happy to try and help and direct us. The cottage was lovely and just as you would expect an Irish cottage to be with a roaring fire to sit round in the evening. Its exactly as you see in the pictures. Would definitely recommend for most people and we would go back. |
