La Cannelle is a private villa set on a cinnamon plantation in southern Sri Lanka. It’s an excellent place to tune into nature and relax — making an unforgettable get-away holiday! La Cannelle is less than five minutes away from incredible beaches.

The veranda at La Cannelle is your own private vista of paradise. Relax in handcrafted planters’ chairs and drink in the plantation surroundings - cinnamon and coconut in full flush, wild peacocks strutting on the grounds and lumbering in flight, together with over 30 species of tropical birds and monkeys swinging in the trees.

Sunsets and sunrises are amazing: deep purples, oranges, crimson. Savour the moment, let nature awaken your senses. The cool turquoise water of the enticing swimming pool is literally only a few steps away. The veranda is the perfect place to start and end your day.

La Cannelle villa is ideal for those seeking something special. “La Cannelle” means cinnamon, inspired by the lush cinnamon plantation setting. Guests marvel at the exotic flora and fauna in this manicured tropical haven.

La Cannelle is a fabulous creative retreat - for those who want to write their next opus, design their next masterpiece or paint in the inescapably golden light that illuminates the property, this is a wonderful environment. Two beautiful antique writer’s desks can be set in the location of your choice, whether the veranda, private courtyard, dining room or even amidst the cinnamon bushes. Professional and amateur artists who have visited La Cannelle have found the villa full of natural light and bursting with colour. La Cannelle is an inspiring muse.

The villa comfortably sleeps 4 adults and two folding beds are also available.

The villa has two large suites - The Planter’s Suite and the Cinnamon Suite. Both are equipped with air conditioners, ceiling fans, flat screen satellite connected TVs and mosquito nets. Finest linens bedeck the extra-large, king size four poster beds. Each spacious en suite bathroom has a special feature - in addition to the solar heated indoor rainforest showers, guests delight in the outdoor showers in the private stone courtyards attached to each bathroom. There is no better feeling than the pure joy of a deluge of cool water under a scorching sun or starlit sky. The Planter’s Suite also has its own private veranda and courtyard with pergola - a sanctuary with ample space for meditation, yoga or quiet contemplation.

A magnificent, solid hardwood table and chairs bring elegance to the dining room. High speed WIFI is available throughout the house. The refreshing 15 metre swimming pool is ensconced in tropical foliage and perfect for laps, frolicking or lazy floating. The full-time staff is available to serve you tea and drinks, cook for you, do laundry and provide a wealth of information about the flora and fauna on the property, as well as help arrange local transportation at your request. Service and assistance are always seconds away.

All guests are invited to participate in a cinnamon tour on the property to learn how cinnamon is grown and harvested. On your walk, you can pull fresh mangoes or a jak fruit from the trees when in season. When you return to the veranda, Siril and Ranji are always delighted to provide a freshly cleaved coconut to drink. If you are lucky, your visit may coincide with a cinnamon or coconut harvest.

The villa was designed by a local architect of the Geoffrey Bawa School in collaboration with the European owners. The house is set up for total relaxation and comfort.

La Cannelle is in Weligama, 5 minutes from the best beaches in Sri Lanka, just 20 minutes from the historic town of Galle and 1 hour and 20 minutes from Colombo via the new expressway, the exit for which is just 4 km from La Cannelle. Koggala airport is just 15 minutes away. A helicopter from Colombo can also be arranged.

Guests and their kids should never go into the cinnamon bushes or tall grass and bush without being accompanied by a member of our staff and should stay in the large, cut grassy areas around the house and the pool. We did respond to the guest. We try very hard to ensure guests are happy. In this case we are very sorry the guest was not fully satisfied. There were 2 problem puppies on the property and they have since been moved to another property. We have never received any complaints on the food we serve and on the contrary we have received consistently high reviews regarding our food. We strive to always satisfy our guests and ensure the best possible experience. We appreciate the feedback of guests and take such information very seriously. How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send J (the owner) a message.

If J (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
