The Somerset region

Somerset is at the heart of the West Country. It is easily accessible by motorway and Bristol airport is close by. The countryside is interspersed with winding roads and the Somerset Levels and Mendip Hills are popular with walkers, cyclists and nature lovers. If you prefer city life, there are many towns and cities within easy reach. Visit the city of Bath with its beautiful Georgian architecture, theatres, Roman Baths, shops and museums. Go to Bristol to see the Clifton Suspension Bridge, SS Great Britain and the replica of Cabot's ship, The Matthew. Clifton hosts chic shops and there are a number of shopping centres such as Cabots Circus.Other towns and cities are Wells, Glastonbury, Taunton and Cheddar to name but a few. Visit Street where there is Clarks Village, a designer outlet shopping complex. Weston super mare and Burnham-on-sea are along the Bristol Channel where children can build sand castles.

Situated on the Isle of Wedmore, where King Arthur famously signed The Treaty of Wedmore in 878AD, Stoughton Cross is only 3 miles from The Mendip Hills and is surrounded by the Somerset Levels. The village of Wedmore is 1.5 miles away and has 3 pubs all of which do excellent food. There are a number of designer cloths shops, 2 excellent butchers, a fish shop, newsagents/general store, gift shops and a delicatessen. You can walk to the village along the road or across the fields passing the Isle of Wedmore Golf Club.

There are a number of nature reserves close by; Ham Wall, Shapwick Heath and Westhay Moor which have all been featured on the BBC. The murmurations of Starlings in the winter months are a sight not to be missed. Climb the Mendip Hills and see across the Bristol Channel to Wales in the distance.

"Great place"

This cottage is everything as described and more. Had a very relaxing and comfortable stay. Huge bed, underfloor heating, small but perfectly formed kitchen, dishwasher, etc., wonderful ensuite shower… More

Thank you so much for the kind review. I'm glad you found it warm and comfortable and that you were able to relax. It is always good to hear that our guests with limited mobility find it easy to get around. As you said, the Somerset Levels are beautiful and very easy to get to as are the local cities of Wells, Bristol and Bath. There is always plenty to do here and we look forward to welcoming you back.

"Excellent in every way"

Cider Apple Cottage offered everything one would ask for from self-catering accommodation. The cottage is immaculately clean, warm and comfortable, modern yet retaining the old character of the conve… More

I'm so glad you enjoyed your holiday. Thank you for all the kind things you have said. The cottages are very cosy as they are extremely well insulated and the floor to ceiling windows are on the south of the building. We also have underfloor heating which makes the natural stone floors lovely and warm. The woodburner contributes to the atmosphere when it is lit on those cooler evenings. As you said, the cottages are very centrally placed to the Somerset Levels but are also central to the main towns and cities in the region such as Bristol, Bath, Wells, Glastonbury and Taunton. There is lots to see and do here. Thank you once again for your review. Penny.
