About this location
The Northamptonshire region
With excellent road and rail links it's easy to find your way to the county often described as the Rose of the Shires. Here you can choose to step into the traditional rural lifestyle typified by Northamptonshire's numerous pretty villages with their thatched cottages, country lanes and parish churches. Or at the other end of the spectrum, Northamptonshire offers many modern attractions and facilities, and holds the accolade of hosting one of the most thrilling Formula One Grand Prix at Silverstone.
Northamptonshire is home to some of the most beautiful countryside in England. There are miles of walks, beautiful country parks, canals and substantial areas of ancient woodland just waiting to be explored. Miles of cycle path follow the landscape of the Brampton Valley Way. Rockingham Castle perches on its hilltop with views stretching to Rutland Water. Stately homes and ancestral seats, including that of the Spencer family at Althorp, are all part of the local heritage. The network of canals that interweave the county are perfect for exploring, with cruisers able to stop to sample the hospitality of the old navigational inns along the way.
In and around the main market towns there are excellent leisure facilities with great shops, restaurants, museums, galleries, theatres and cinemas, health clubs and spas, and a thriving nightlife for anyone with the energy.
Local sporting highlights include international venues at Silverstone and Rockingham motor racing circuits, the revered Saints rugby team, football league teams and first class county cricket. Enjoy spectacular golf courses, equestrian and country pursuits, and excellent watersports centres.
Northamptonshire is a place for everyone.
Thorny Cottage is in an ideal location for your base to visit many local attractions.
Althorpe is just 8 miles away and Ashby St Ledgers where the Gunpowder Plot was planned is within 3 miles.
If you are a motor racing fan, Silverstone Circuit and Rockingham are within easy reach.
We have Northampton Saints and Leicester Tigers Rugby Clubs, plus The Cobblers Football Club - named after the famous Northamptonshire shoe industry.
Other places of interest including Stratford Upon Avon and Warwick Castle are a nice drive for a day out.
Trent Bridge and Egbaston are less than one hour away, plus Pitsford reservoir, Draycote and Ravensthorpe - all offering excellent Trout fishing.

"Excellent value and relaxed stay"
The owners were brilliant at making us feel welcome and going out of thier way to help if required. Henry the farmers son was great at taking us around the farm land and they were all great with my 4 year old daughter. Barn was very spacious and perfect as I had a 9 week old baby, I can honestly say I could easily live there. Nice and quiet location with some lovely little villages around and craft shops/pubs near by. I definaitely plan to return. One of the best value for money places I have stayed and believe me I have stayed in a lot of holiday lets, enjoy it, especially the fresh eggs from the chucks in the morning.

"Very Spacious Holiday Let"
Thorny Cottage is a very spacious, well decorated, luxury barn conversion. The cottage was warm, cosy and quite throughout our stay and had everything we needed. The kitchen has the biggest amount of cooking equipment I have seen in a holiday let (there is even a bread maker)
The owners are very welcoming and you have the added bonus of having masses of green land to walk around, accompanied by a lovely friendly dog who likes to chase stones.
I would highly recommend this place for a stay in Northamptionshire.
