The County Kerry region
The County Kerry is part of the mystical & unspoilt region of Ireland that has attracted visitors for hundreds of years. Its spectacular beauty is beyond question and it is a natural centre for outdoor pursuits including golf, watersports, cycling, walking, riding and the very best fishing for salmon & trout.
The Ring of Kerry has some of the finest beaches in Europe that provide all the facilities for a traditional seaside holiday. Above all the Ring of Kerry provides an amazing insight into the ancient heritage of Ireland - see the Iron Age Forts & Ogham Stones, Old Monasteries and a landscape carved out of rock by the last Ice Age 10,000 years ago. Visitors to Ireland should not miss a trip to the beautiful County Kerry.
The Waterville area
Ballinskelligs (10 minutes drive) An extensive sandy beach in a rural environment. ?The area is a designated Natural heritage area. The beach is located on the western side of Ballinskelligs Harbour, 2km south of the village of Dungeagan located in the Gaelic speaking part of the County. Derrynane (20 minutes drive) An extensive sandy beach in Derrynane Bay. The beach is situated in proximity to a Natural Heritage ?Area of national importance. The village of Caherdaniel is located two miles to the north west of the beach and is on the Ring of Kerry. This beach is lifeguarded from July 1 to August 31 12-7 daily.
Walking
At 215km, the world renowned Kerry Way is Ireland's longest signposted walking trail and also one of the most popular. It starts and finishes in Killarney. Looping around the Iveragh Peninsula, where Cuanbeg is located, the Kerry Way goes anti-clockwise, passing through some of the most isolated and dramatic countryside in the country. Whilst Kerry is renowned for having the highest mountains in Ireland, the Kerry Way avoids the higher peaks and opts for the lower reaches of mountain ridges. The trail progresses through a variety of different landscapes and experiences, giving the walker a wider appreciation for County Kerry
Golf
Consistently ranked among the Top 10 courses in the world, Waterville and Ballybunion are truly mystical Links in the Kingdom of Kerry. Other jewels in the crown include the Old Head of Kinsale, Tralee, Ceann Sibéal and Dooks. ??For those who want to experience something different, but no less challenging, there are a number of superb parkland courses all within easy reach. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cuanbeg, a huge plus point for us was that our dogs are allowed there. It was lovely to be able to take a break and take our dogs somewhere so luxurious as many lettings which allow pets are run down but this was far from it, it was perfect! It was great to be somewhere so peaceful and we could just open the door and the dogs were safe (huge enclosed garden). The hot tub was fantastic and on the rainy days we just sat in there relaxing. The facilities in the house were excellent and cannot be faulted. We would recommend this to anyone who wants a total relaxation holiday with nothing at all to disturb them. The owner was very helpful throughout the whole process. Response: Abigail thank you for kind words. We are very happy that ye enjoyed your holiday. We also enjoy spending time In the hot tub, especially at night when the sky is clear and you can look up at the stars. A great opportunity to get away from it all. Hope to see you back again. Best wishes Gillian |
