The West Country / Somerset region

The 'Manor' caravan is situated at Haven's Doniford Bay site, close to Watchet and Minehead, on the edge of the picturesque Quantock Hills. The Exmoor National Park is within a 20 minute drive of the site. The resorts of Combe Martin, Lynton and Lynmouth can be reached quite easily along the A39 coastal route with its funicular cliff railway being a real treat with its far reaching views out to sea. Walkers will love the stunning quiet walks to and from Watersmeet.. The historic town of Taunton is approximately 25 minutes away. Bridgwater is about 20 minutes away. Go further afield and you can visit Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole with its famous caves, Weston-Super Mare and for those bargain hunters - 'Clark's Village' is a must!

Watchet area

The West Somerset Steam Railway offers you 20 miles of Somerset's finest scenery from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard. There is a stop at Doniford Halt just a short walk away from the Park. Money saving 'Family Rover' tickets are available, so you can spend the entire day hopping on and off and enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Watchet is a quaint harbour town, a short distance from the Park.

Dunster Castle and medieval village, which are referenced in the Doomsday Book, is also nearby.

There is direct access to the beach from the Park, or you could always go fossil hunting at Kilve Beach, or visit nearby Blue Anchor with its long sandy beach.

Minehead has a fine ornamental park, off Blenheim Road (Blenheim Gardens); and the Minehead & West Somerset Golf Club, Somerset's oldest golf club, established in 1882. There are a variety of sailing and wind surfing options, in addition to the usual beach activities. In addition, there are many amusement arcades and a variety of well-known high street stores; together with independent local shops. There is also a Tesco supermarket situated on the outskirts of Minehead. The town is the starting point of the South West Coast Path National Trail, the nation's longest long-distance countryside walking trail. You could always spend a day at Butlins and you can get reduced price day passes from Doniford Bay reception.

Somerset is a haven for walkers with over 1,100 miles of paths and tracks. It is alive with history and legend; walk in the footsteps of King Arthur and King Alfred; home of Lorna Doone and visit the mysterious Glastonbury Tor, which rises out of the Somerset Levels (ancient wetlands) like a beacon. For long distance walking, the Coleridge Way, linking the Quantock Hills with Exmoor uses Breedon Hills as 'the bridge' between the two areas. This 36 mile route ends at Porlock, the picturesque village famous for its hill.

Farmer's Markets take place at Lynton on the 1st Saturday of the month; Dulverton on the 4th Friday of the month; Minehead every Friday, Williton every Friday and Watchet every Wednesday.

Cycle hire shops can be found in Minehead and Porlock.

Wimbleball Reservoir is a hidden gem with 385 acres of water set in stunning scenery. Windsurfing and sailing takes place there and dinghies can be hired.
