The Cumbria region

With accessible mountains, beautiful lakes and tarns, woodlands and moorlands, the Lake District is a haven, not only for outdoor enthusiasts, but for anyone who loves peace and beauty.

The changing seasons bring with them different highlights – Spring is a time of new life with baby lambs, Wordsworth's daffodils, and walks through bluebell woods. Summer brings it's own magic, either lazing by a lake or enjoying the view from the high mountain peaks. Beautiful Autumn colours hopefully bring along an Indian Summer and wild winter on the frosty fells, makes the most of an open fire and a seasonal glass of mulled wine.

The beautiful lakes with dramatic fells rising from there shores are just part of a great experience of excellent local food and fantastic activities. A holiday here can live long in the memory and get you coming back for more.

Wasdale Head

Wasdale is one of the Lake district's more remote area, but that doesn't stop it from having lots to offer its visitors. It boasts England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike, its deepest lake, Wastwater, and one of it's smallest churches, St Olaf's. The dramatic scree slopes, which surround half the lake, are a magnificent sight and a simple stroll around the lake is well worth the effort to see them. The route from Wasdale head up to Scafell Pike is one of the most popular paths, used by thousands every year. There are many other impressive fells in the surrounding area, you could easily bag a few Wainwright's during your stay.

There is also the valleys of Eskdale and Ennerdale within easy reach as well as the coast. Activities include, outdoor pursuits (climbing, canoeing and ghyll scrambling), there is the Eskdale to Ravengalss miniature steam railway and Muncaster Castle, with its beautiful gardens and owl centre.

"Deposit - Watch Out"

Property itself very nice but be warned about deposit deductions. Some points to note if you want to stay at this property;-1. £200 deposit (for a 3 night stay). Excessive2. Sally's Cottag… More

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback on Tripadvisor. We are sorry to hear that you are not happy with the service you received and this has marred your experience of our wonderful property Mill Cottage. The damage deposit of £200 is standard for every booking we take and is average for a property that size. It is rare that a damage deposit is withheld, it is in place as a precautionary measure, which in this case was needed. Extra cleaning was required from an outside company to remove a carpet stain that appeared at the property after your stay and only the costs incurred were taken out of the damage deposit. Our Terms and Conditions have details of this and will have been agreed to on making your booking. Sally's Cottages holds the deposit for the owner and any dispute of this is then dealt directly between yourselves and the owner, which is standard with holiday letting companies. We did not receive a request from you for a copy of the invoice and we would have been happy to send this to you. We apologise for the delay in returning the remainder of your damage deposit; there was a delay receiving the invoice, with the exact amount charged. Once again we appreciate your feedback, as it helps us improve the service we provide and we have taken on board your comments."

"An wonderfully equipped house for a relaxing family holiday"

I travelled with my family, my parents and my sister and her family. Mill Cottage was ideal for our needs. It is spacious, comfortable (loved the underfloor heating) and equipped to an extremely high standard. Loved the two living rooms; the quiet location; the comfortable couches and the huge open kitchen/dining room. It was the best self catering cottage we have stayed in, and we hope to be back. Thank you!
