The Central England / Cotswolds / Warwickshire region

Warwickshire is located in the Heart of the English Midlands, south of the second city Birmingham.
The county is an unspoilt mixture of small villages, rolling countryside and urban areas; mainly small towns but also the city of Coventry.
The county is the gateway to the Cotswolds, the Home Counties and Shakespeare's England.
Its geographical proximity and excellent transport links make an ideal base to explore the real Heart of England!
The prosperous county used to be a centre for farming, engineering and in the north; coal mining.
In recent years many high technology companies, specialist design engineering, distribution, tourism and large universities provide the bulk of the employment.
Many commuters travel from the pretty villages and market towns, to the cities of Birmingham and Coventry to work; along the extensive road and rail networks.
The Warwick / Central Warwick area
Warwick the county town of Warwickshire, has a history stretching back to at least the reign of King Ethelred in 914 AD.
It is world famous for the historic castle, considered to be one of the finest medieval buildings in England.
The compact town centre is a mixture of Georgian, Victorian and Tudor buildings, with many small museums, numerous restaurants and interesting independent shops.
There are local events year round: Warwick hosts an annual Folk Festival in July and a Literary Festival- Warwick Words in early October. November marks the Victorian Evening and winter events at the castle.
There are 22 race meetings per annum at approximately fortnightly intervals.
This part of Warwickshire has many attractions for the visitor, close by are:
Royal Leamington Spa- 3 miles- is a mainly Georgian town, with extensive shopping.
Stratford Upon Avon- 8 miles- is the birthplace of William Shakespeare, and the home to the RSC Theatres.
Kenilworth- 5 miles- is another market town, mostly Victorian but with a huge ruined castle.
Nearby is the Royal Agricultural Show Grounds at Stoneleigh and the campus of Warwick University.
There are also many stately homes and historic gardens within a short drive.
