This romantic and charming holiday cottage, once part of a ropery (rope maker) and dating from around 1860, and recently renovated retaining all its original features including oak-beamed ceilings, is located about one mile from the centre of the historic market town of Warminster. It is very close to Longleat Safari-park and country-house estate.

Corner Cottage provides an ideal base for visiting all that Wiltshire, Dorset and Somerset have to offer, such as Stourhead House and Garden (NT), Stonehenge, the Salisbury Plain, Lacock Abbey (famous for Harry Potter), Glastonbury, and Gold Hill in Shaftesbury (do you remember the classic Hovis advert with the boy pushing his bike up the hill? It wasn't 'up North'). And of course, Bath Spa, the beautiful Georgian city with its roof-top pool and spa, and its famous Roman baths, is just 16 miles away.

The cottage is well-appointed and provides just what you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. It also has a long and attractive garden with outdoor furniture. The holiday cottage is ideally suited to younger families or couples, comprising a double bed in bedroom 1, 6' 3" built-in bunk beds in bedroom 2 all on the top floor, and a small-double sofa-bed in the family room on the middle floor if required. Note that whilst six persons could be accommodated, the cottage is best suited to four.

Accommodation is spaced over three floors:

Ground floor: Oak-beamed ceilings, fitted kitchen with Belfast sink; dining area with seating for four; lounge with guarded open-fire, large settee, flat-screen free-view TV / digital radio, and DVD/CD player with separate amplifier and speakers.

Middle floor: Oak-beamed main room with sofa-bed, additional seating, and free-view TV; bathroom with thermostatically-controlled shower over the bath, and washing machine. The hot water and central heating is supplied via an on-demand combi-boiler.

Top floor: The main double-bedroom with oak dressing table and mahogany wardrobe, and twin bunk-beds room.

Whilst it is stone-built and therefore pleasantly cool during the summer, Corner Cottage has special wall insulation ensuring it is warm and snug at other times of the year.

Kindly note:

We can often be flexible with the check-in time to suit your requirements.

Due to the 2 steep front door steps and the accommodation being spread over three floors, the cottage is not suitable for the infirm. If you wish to bring young children, you should satisfy yourself that the accommodation is suitable for them, and whilst at the cottage they should be closely supervised at all times. A single door/stair-gate can be provided though we cannot accept responsibility for its use. For your children's safety, all low-sill upstairs windows have restricted opening.

Further details outdoors

Corner Cottage has a long, private sunny garden with outdoor furniture provided. At the bottom of the garden, through the small gate is the parking area (space for 2 cars), which is accessed from the road via double gates.

Further details

The open fire will accept coal or logs; kindling and wood for your first fire is provided gratis.

Whilst we state the cottage is only suitable for over-fives, this is to highlight the potential dangers to your children due to the two flights of stairs, the open fire and tall front steps. With close supervision, children of all ages are welcome. Note that safety window catches are fitted to all upper floor windows. A stair-gate and a high-chair are available upon request.

We reserve the right to improve or change the accommodation without notice though any major changes will be notified to you if you have already booked your accommodation with us.

The Central Southern England region

Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire offer some of the most captivating and contrasting areas of beauty from beaches to countryside and historic market towns; there is something for everyone.

Countryside features include the Salisbury Plain, Cranborne Chase, and one of Britain's best-kept secrets - the Wylye Valley with its attractive villages and historic landscape.

Some of the UK's finest beaches can be found at Poole, Christchurch (remote and quiet) and Bournemouth (lively).

Salisbury, with its cathedral spire (the tallest in the UK at 123m), Shaftesbury with its famous Gold Hill, and Bath Spa City with its Roman baths are all well worth a visit.

Warminster

Warminster lies to the south west of Salisbury Plain, beneath the chalk downland with its abundant flora and fauna. The town boasts many historic attractions of its own; The Athenaeum in the High Street combines theatre, cinema and an art gallery. The Dewey Museum in the Warminster Library houses a display of local history and geological specimens. There is also a 'Blue Plaque' scheme describing the many historic buildings in the town.

The Lake Pleasure Grounds contains tennis courts, a refreshment kiosk, bandstand, boating lake, children's playground and a Skateboard Park; and Smallbrook Meadow, a nature reserve which is managed by the Wildlife Trust.

In October the Warminster Illuminated Carnival (part of the Somerset Carnivals tour) parades through the town and is always worth a visit. It raises thousands of pounds every year for local charities.

"Would thoroughly recommend this charming cottage"

Very helpful owners who are knowledgeable about the area and region. On arrival the cottage was spotlessly clean and prepared. We loved the décor, the homely touches and the whole ambience. The bed is lovely and comfortable, which is very important to us when staying away from home. The garden is in a good sunny spot with a seating and table area which we were lucky enough to use for a nice glass of wine after long days of sightseeing. The immediate area is nice and has a local high street with interesting shops. There are lots of different places to go, with things to do in the region and it is not too far from Bath which is really interesting with a variety of eateries, some of which we used when we didn't fancy cooking. All amenities in the cottage are like home from home. We hope to visit your cottage again this year because there are still lots of things we want to do and see but didn't have time to do it all first time around. We didn't even get round to going to Longleat and it's almost on your doorstep! Thank you Graeme and Jenny for everything. We would have no hesitation is recommending your cottage very highly, in fact, I already have.

Thank you for your feedback, it is very important to us. We are glad you had a great time at Corner Cottage and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

"Beautifully restored cottage in easy reach of many fantastic places to visit"

We couldn't have had a better place to stay for our 'family' week-end with the grandchildren. Your three-level cottage is a delight, splendidly appointed and very comfortable. My wife and I have several decades of experience of self-catering lets, including time-shares in different locations (we have three separate weeks' timeshare ourselves in Scotland), and we have seldom enjoyed such comprehensive facilities as you have laid on at "Corner Cottage". You've thought of everything and your attention to detail has been meticulous. Furthermore, you have maintained the decor and the overall quality to a high standard. At this time of year particularly, we appreciated the efficiency of the central-heating and the constant hot water on tap.

Your situation on the outskirts of the town of Warminster was perfect for our needs and it was so quick and easy to have fun in Salisbury and Bath, as well as locally - a half-day visit to the pre-Christmas opening and events at Longleat was the icing on the cake - certainly as far as our grandchildren were concerned.

All in all, we have the happiest of memories of our stay at "Corner Cottage" and would love to return some time. Thank you from all of us.

Thank you for your kind words about Corner Cottage. We're delighted you enjoyed your stay so much and we hope to welcome you to stay again in the future.

"Cozy and Classic"

It was a pleasure to spend Christmas here, while we never met Jenny, she prepared the house perfectly with little Christmas decorations and wood for the fire, and the house was actually big enough for… More

Thank you for your lovely feedback. You'll recall I was away myself for Christmas so couldn't meet you but usually would arrange to greet guests when they arrive at Corner Cottage.
A car is beneficial for visiting Warminster, however it has good public transport and many attractions (e.g. the Athenaeum and Longleat Estate & safari Park). But like attractions in most historic (though it's not quite stone-age!) rural towns, they are closed for the Christmas bank holidays.
It's a shame you didn't get to see much of the area – most of our guests say they love the area and would even liked to have stayed longer as there is so much to see and do! Perhaps you'll return later in the year to see the area at its best.

"Good base to explore Wiltshire"

We had a great week at the Corner Cottage. Perfect place to use as a home base to explore. Enough space for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Very well furnished and clean. Short drives to restaurants and gr… More

Thank you for your feedback and we are pleased you had a great holiday.
Previously we did have a washer-dryer however this required changing several months ago. We changed the advert to reflect the new machine but you had booked the holiday before it was changed. We apologize for not forewarning you about the change.
We have never claimed to have Wi-Fi but it is possible to use a BT-FON /HOTSPOT connection from the property. We do intend to set up for the internet in the very near future and the advert will be updated when it is available.
Whilst the house is alongside the road, it is not a 'main road'. It can be busy at times, but not usually during the night. We have stayed at Corner Cottage on several occasions ourselves and have not had a problem with noise. We are sorry if it disturbed you.

"Lovely"

We had a fantastic break here during the October half term with our 8 year old son for 4 nights. This is a comfortable and charming cottage, ideally located for a visit to Longleat; we had a 2 day pass and it is literally a few minutes drive away . The cottage is beautifully decorated and a relaxing place to come home to after days out. We especially appreciated the log fire, well-equipped kitchen and comfortable bedrooms. The owners were very helpful and also provided some welcome extras, like candles and cake, also a pumpkin and sweets as it was Halloween. We really enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to recommend this cottage.

Thank you for your kind words and we are pleased you had a great holiday at Corner Cottage.
