The Northern England / Northumberland region
Northumbria is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian’s Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife. Covering 400 square miles, the Northumberland National Park is the least populated of England’s National Parks, much to the benefit of those visitors seeking peace and solitude. Thousands of paths and tracks weave their way through beautiful countryside, providing exhilarating fresh air and wide-open spaces for walkers and cyclists alike. Stay a while, roam the countryside but don’t forget to explore further, because the area known as Northumbria offers much more than just the National Park. Northumbria encompasses County Durham, the Tees Valley and Tyne and Wear, as well as covering the North Pennines ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, the World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall, the City of Durham and the Heritage Coastline, boasting a selection of protected golden beaches and tiny fishing villages. Northumberland’s Heritage Coast has mile upon mile of sparkling beaches, rocky coves and picturesque fishing villages. Sweeping from Berwick-upon-Tweed in the north, to Druridge Bay in the south, popular destinations along the coastline include the horseshoe-shaped sandy beach and dunes at Beadnell Bay, the bustling village of Seahouses, with boat trips from the picturesque harbour, and the kipper smokery and coastal path at Craster. Adding to the area’s splendour is a chain of magnificent castles: Alnwick, home to the powerful Percy family and the setting for some of the Harry Potter films; spectacular, medieval Bamburgh, standing high on its rocky outcrop; the brooding ruins of Dunstanburgh and pretty Warkworth.
The Warkworth area
Situated on a bend at the banks of the looping River Coquet, the picturesque village of Warkworth is dominated by the ruins of its twelfth century castle. A great location from which to enjoy Northumberland’s Heritage Coast, this wonderful village is full of historical intrigue as the ancestral home to the Percy family – Henry Percy being the lover of a young Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII‘s second wife. Another Percy residence can be seen nearby in the form of Alnwick Castle, most famous now for its part as Hogwarts School in the Harry Potter films. Full of Georgian and early Victorian houses, Alnwick boasts a host of architecturally interesting buildings and is home to an exceptional range of galleries, antique shops, a village shop-cum-post office, pubs, restaurants and gift shops.

Guestbook for 2539 - The Annexe, Eastfield
Such a beautiful location, the property had everything I needed and more. Absolutely loved it and have already recommended it to friends. It was wonderful.

,The cottage was perfect, it was so pretty and a lot larger than we were expecting. The location was wonderful. The view from the conservatory and garden was fantastic. The location was excellent for travelling to all beaches and castles. It was lovely to have had such a nice holiday with our wee dog.

,Very quiet, restful and relaxing holiday.

,The property was decorated and furnished to a very high standard. I stay in holiday rentals several times a year - both with and without my dogs. Dog owners frequently have to put up with sub-standard accommodation but not in this case. For once we enjoyed really comfortable surroundings AND the pleasure of our dogs' company - a true home from home.
